This is going to be long... I apologize beforehand...
I grew up in the early-mid 2000s, and unfortunately, when I look back at my favorite toys/franchises/whatever-you-call-them, most of them are starting to fade out or are taking losses. GI Joe, Transformers, God forbid even Star Wars and Lego! Out of all my favorite stuff, only one brand still has success today. Why? cuz they adapted. It is called Pokemon. When I was writing a speech for one of my classes, I came across a study that showed that the average 4 year old has unrestrained internet access. In my opinion, thats not too great but anyway, since the modern kid has so much access to internet and electronics, they have lost interest in toys (and also lost imagination and social skills but hey, back to the point). Pokemon noticed somewhere around 2012(?) that their trading cards/plush toys/video games started to sell less and less. Therefore, they created a mobile game that most kids could get their hands on:Pokemon GO. While not the fad it used to be, POGO (as its known as) still has 63mil active players. I need not tell you that the cards/toys/games have had an incredible boost in sales as well. In short, Pokemon realized that to sell merchandise, it needs to get the attention of the modern generation. Hasbro and other companies need to realize that the modern kid is not like us. Your opinions below...

Here we go again...
First, “Transformers” is a multi billion dollar franchise that has produced absolutely scads of toys over the past 15 years. The collector market is huge and far more robust than Joe. Likewise, sales for Star Wars toys are lower than expected but nothing to sneeze at. And I’m frankly perplexed at the claim that Lego is somehow suffering. By revenue, Lego is the largest toy company in the world. The only brand that is actually suffering is Joe. |

I've said it in three threads now...
FORTNITE. 01. Pay Epic Games whatever they want to Skin GIJoe characters into the game. 02. Sell Action Figures of the Skins that include the download code for the skin. 03. Secure the rights for selling official licensed Fortnite Action Figures in 3 3/4" in a sister-line to GIJoe - a la Street Fighter. 04. Sit back and collect your money. |

If Bumblebee doesn't bring them back to the fore front it won't be long till they are in Joe's shoes. It appears that the only toy lines doing well now is Marvel Legends and still, despite losses, Lego.

I believe you're right Duke. I've mentioned on here before that Joe needs an app or internet game of some sort to get kids interested. It's the only chance to truly revive the brand. Kids just don't play with toys like they used to (some do, but it's not the norm anymore, clearly).

If you look at how popular the amigos are for Nintendo and spyro this should have been a no brainer for Hasbro to put out a video game with toy intergration. THe game would have to be great and they would need to heavily invest in it. They spent a bunch of money producing the OG cartoon and comic which has now moved to movies. Why not put some money into a game... Reskin an old Call of duty game...
