Some excellent stories!
I have a couple. First one was when I was about 10. My little sister threw Ripcord into some bushes. He was beyond lost, as you can imagine with all that camo. I was so peeved. BUT, she did make up for it by getting me Beachhead. I still have him with his original accessories, too.
Second involved buying a large lot about 10 years ago. Among the many pieces were a Mauler MBT and a practically mint v1 Starduster. I moved out of my apartment and packed everything up. When I unpacked and looked through everything, 'duster's accessories were missing! I figured they were lost in one of the 4 moves since then. About 2 years ago I was cleaning the MBT and popped open one of the hatch covers and there were his gun, helment and visor. One of the happiest moments of my life as collector!
Wife: Don't forget to pick up your toys after you're done playing.
Me: They're not toys - they're miniture military collectibles!

I made a stop-animation short about 15 years ago with a friend and left my complete Terrordrome and a bunch of Joes at his house. They moved and I'm sure threw it out or gave it to Goodwill.

Back in '89 I was at this real douchey kid's house playing in the backyard. Well, I found a Wild Weasel buried in the dirt and was really excited. I gave it to him and he said I could keep it. Furthermore, he said I could keep ANY figures I unearthed. I spent a good hour and a half digging through the dirt pile and probably found twenty + figures.
When I was packing up to go home, the douche said he changed his mind and I couldn't keep them.
This is the same douche bag kid who charged me .25 cents to play TMNT on the NES.
Waxing clowns and smoking fools since 1979.

Man, this is a tear jerker of a thread for me!! I got my 3rd G.I. Joe guy in my Easter basket when I was 8..it was the 84 Storm Shadow. All I had up until that point was Tele-Viper, and Tollbooth with the toss n cross.....I had JUST started with the cartoon and was obsessed with Storm Shadow. I got him that day and did the dance of joy for hrs.
A week or so later I was outside of a strip mall with my parents waiting for my mom to come outside from some jewlery store..I can CLEARLY remember playing with SS on the railing outside...I dont remember dropping him, I dont remember anything...except when I got out of the car, he wasnt in my pocket or in any of the seats of the car...that was the LAST I saw of my ninja friend.
I have no idea what the hell my stupid ass could have did with him. He was already like a year old when I got him and we tried EVERYWHERE to find him again..I cried like a bitch forever and never saw him again.
Its funny because a few years back, I had NO IDEA there was a 25th line comming out, didnt collect V v V or Sigma 6..I was walking in target and saw the 84, 25th style Storm Shadow...I shit my pants, bought him and the rest obviously is history.
Some sonuvabitch found that damn Storm Shadow no doubt...I would seriously give up a weeks pay to find out what my stupid, monkey ass did with my favorite action figure in the world!

biggest loss: when my brother took my Clash of the Titans Perseus figure and beheaded him, bloodied his neck and used him for a school project with his homemade guilotine...
great find...my dad unearthed Iceburg from his dirt nap last year...

First...I was staying in my folks trailer in Nebraska while our house was being built (Air Force brat, moved A LOT). This was later 80s, so I would have been 7-10 something. I was up over a little hill playing with Firefly who was definately my favorite. I got distracted, probably got called home, and left him there. Next time I went back I saw a snake in the grass and got scared and ran away. Never went back and got him.
Second Joe loss I can recall was at my mom's church in MA. Early 90s. Playing with another Joe fan out back, and dropped my good guy Storm Shadow down a grate outside which about 10-15 feet down housed a generator or heater or something. I used to look at him every day but couldnt get him.
Flash forward to 2007. I live in NH, and was visiting old friends in MA. Drove by the church. Look down in the grate. Theres Storm Shadow =D

OK so here is my story...
I started collecting Joes in 1984 I was 13 I one of my first was Air borne loved that dude and it snowballed from there... got ride of my complete Star Wars figures collection.Joes where 10 times better for me.. back ground done. Move to the year 1993 my collecton was complete Flagg and all mint figures all complete. it was stored in a very big box. when me and my wife and at that time my son and new born Daughter we moved from Spokane, Washington to Phoenix,AZ .the years and a half we lived there was a living hell...was not making it in any way shape or form.you can see where this was going right.....so there was this antique mall the had a toy dealier in there sooooo for like $500.00 he got it all every single figure, vehical, flagg, every thing...so if you are from the Palo Verta area of Phoenix, AZ and went to this old shopping center that was all white and had an antique mall on the north side of it. that is where I sold it all in 1993.. to this day i wished I would have marked them to see If I could find them..
so that is my storie..... I restarted collecting after the 25ths came out... my collection is now to the level it was back then

I have two older brothers, so there were always joes and cobras between the three of us growing up. One of my favorites was Steeler, I think because of the cool visor and the gun holster on his chest. Plus, the MOBAT was a sweet machine, what with its battery-powered movement and all.
I don't remember exactly when I noticed Steeler was missing, I probably just figured he'd show up somewhere. Until just a few years ago, I would search the closet where I thought he may be holed up. It took me until just a couple of years ago to realize that one of my cousins with sticky fingers probably took him when we were kids. There were a couple things missing throughout my childhood and it always seemed to coincide with when these cousins came to visit, which was very infrequently.
Well, I guess someone else got to enjoy Steeler for a little while. For this reason, Steeler is my holy grail. I am still in love with the MOBAT.
On a side note, did anyone only collect Joe or Cobra? It seems that one of my brothers would only buy one side. He must have been very committed to the cause from a young age.

I was at uh i think Pleasant Island, they had some arcade games. Sitting there on one of the machines was Snake Eyes one with the silver knifes across his chest. I looked around didn't see anyone around kid or anything that might just left it sitting there so i pocketed it. Find out later that he won't stay together, still got em but he's apart in my gallon ziploc bag with all my other joes.
