In regards to the design of the figures to their supposed MOS, what is the biggest “what the hell were they thinking?” moment for you? I will over look bright colors, for instance Skid Mark was bright orange, but his over all design made sense for a dude that drives a jeep.
My biggest is probably Sneek Peak. Why is a guy whose job is to sit in a muddy hole and observe the enemy undetected wearing an X-wing pilot uniform with civil war cavalry boots on?

Some bright colors are hard to overlook when they are counter to the character. Firefly V2, the saboteur who prides himself on entering and leaving undetected, wearing neon green.
The excessive weapons strapped to some figures...Battle Commander Stalker comes to mind. And Battle Corps Bazooka's grenade bracelet. Dee-Jay's boots. Downtown's helmet. Long Range's hip wader boots. I guess it was some sort of Napoleanic era look? Cold Front has strange legs, too. Battle Corps/cancelled Eco Warriors Outback. It's not a bad figure, but why would Outback have been the only Eco Warrior without a containment suit? Muskrat Battle Corps...looks like he should've been a Mega Marine but was supposed to be DEF, yet...the 1992 DEF guys were rational/not sci-fi designs. Battle Corps Law, too, but at least he's a cool figure. |

I've got a relevant one which I've been on fire about recently.
Version 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 Night Creeper. What a weird pseudo-supervillain look. It's another example of how Viper evolution was arbitrary and meaningless after the earlier sculptors began leaving the line. However, I recently picked up a few complete versions for dirt-cheap and I discovered something unexpected. I LOVE Version 5. It's a great scuba diver Night Creeper. With all his gear on, he's a plausible and acceptable fusion of a classic Night Creeper and basic frogman. I now believe they had a solid design idea from the start. He looks great, I want 20 more of them. I think it went wrong when they started reusing the base figure (without the gear) in different versions. The diver body is then being adapted into forest colors or whatever and the accessories become meaningless on those other ones. They suck. What they should have done was make different helmet molds for other specialties and continue to theme-out each version as a "Night Creeper PLUS Specialty" figure. When that figure has some gear on it then it DOES begin to look like a Night Creeper with modified gear.

Recoil’s re-purposed coal-scuttle-turned-cap and brown jackboots. Should have been a boonie hat and jungle boots.
