My fear was that they would remain pop-ups, but it sounds like he does intend to make the high-performing ones permanent so that is a good sign. I wonder if they will take on any of the planned Toys R Us exclusives to make up the inventory. I know that the Sentinel/Wolverine set was planned to go there later in the year so hopefully that gets picked up.
As for the "new" KB...best of luck! Unfortunately the shopping mall model is dying out in a lot of places (though there are still some successful ones). Unfortunately, if you don't have big-time backing, it's VERY difficult for a smaller company to compete with Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon on price and still turn a healthy profit, and even harder to cut into Amazon's share of the online market. It may sound like a "no brainer" to buy up TRU's inventory and sell it online, but think about it: By the time the sale and transfer is complete, you're now holding on to a giant pile of...old toys that have already been picked over in liquidation (Because it'd take a couple or three months to facilitate the transfer...by then the "heat" is off of anything desirable that TRU had left as newer stuff is already out, and from my understanding Vendors have already stopped shipping to TRU so they're not getting any more of the newest stuff as they go through liquidation). Then you've got to pay for places to store all this stuff while waiting to try to sell it. In the end you end up paying a ton of money to have all the stuff that's been rotting on pegs and shelves in your local TRU rotting in your warehouses and still not selling, because if you try to undercut Amazon on prices AND offer free shipping...you're losing money on the deal, and forcing yourself out of business. And all that was assuming you had the tens of millions of dollars needed to buy up all that inventory in the first place. |
