As 1985 brought two opposed surface to air defensive systems in the form of G.I. Joe Air Defense and Cobra Bunker playsets, I always considered the Cobra Adder as the answer to the G.I Joe MMS from 1982 since both are mobile missile batteries. I recently read carefully the blueprints and to my surprise I discovered Cobra Adder's missiles are surface to surface. But why would a surface to surface missile battery have a rack able to rotate almost 90degrees and why white heat missiles (which I understand are heat seekers) to blow walls and tanks?

I fear this will forever remain one of life's great mysteries my friend. Good catch though!

Firing an SSM vertically means it can go higher before entering it's ballistic phase arcing back toward the surface of the planet and its target. It's the same reason why nuclear missile silos are vertically orientated or the launch tubes on SSBN nuclear missile subs are orientated that way, or even the launch tubes for SAMs on some warships. And the missiles being white has nothing to do with them being SAMs or not. You can paint a missile any colour you want, but it'd be a waste of paint and increase the missile's weight. if by the white heat comment, you're referring to the missiles' name, pfft, that's just a name for them like Sidewinder or Sparrow, Maverick, Brimstone or Tomahawk. The RAF has a cruise missile called Storm Shadow; doesn't mean they're hanging a white-clad ninja off the wings of Eurofighters. Last edited by CapBritain; 12-05-2017 at 03:28 PM.. |

I’ve often wondered if there’s a Joe/Action Force fan in the British government. The Storm Shadow missle and the emergency cabinet called Cobra!

the emergency Cabinet briefing room thing predates ARAH. It's just called that because they meet in Cabinet Office Briefing Room A, the name just became publicly known recently.

To me the Adder carries two SAMs. Even the sticker in the drivers seat shows a jet in the crosshairs of the targeting system.
The IMP on the other hand is a surface to surface missile/scatter bomb. |
