It'd be like putting a random, out-of-nowhere stranger into Superman's tights. Then you say, "This is Dunk-El, a random survivor of Krypton. He likes dudes and is also some kind of ethnic person. He is now Superman, Clark Kent is just gone. Deal with it." You're going to get a -few- sales. At first. That's the trick. "The NEW Superman issue #1" is going to sell. Issue #1's always sell. Cue our new 'Superman' over the course of a year will monologue internally about how he's just as good as the original. Random allies and enemies will remark on how he's totally just as good as the original. All these characters that this fictional character interacts with says he's just as good as the original, because the writer wrote it that way. Don't you agree? Of course you don't, because you liked the actual character Superman was before. 'Superman' was not a title and a costume- he was a person with thoughts, passions, goals, struggles, and all sorts of experiences that you were there for and you watched him carry all of that forward to be heroic another day, against another threat. So you're not buying this crap. So there's our 'writer', the 'creative' person that decided that the only way to make our Homosexual African-American character viable was to shoehorn him into a white man's costume and name. That's lazy writing, and it cheapens BOTH characters. But when you call it out, you're a bigot. You just hate gays or African-Americans or something. No, it's not that you think it's a cheap stunt. You're a BAD person. "Also, the only reason sales are slumping and we are having to cancel this new African-American Superman is because comic culture is full of bigots, thus proving we NEED people like me writing!", begs this lazy writer. Fortunately, these excuses- while transparent to most of us- only last so long. And when the desperate attempts to keep their heads above water with "New #1" comics becomes tired old hat, the company will suffer. And I don't care what your politics, ideology, or religion is. At the end of the day, even in front of the most 'progressive' or 'daring' CEO- the almighty Dollar is King. It is God. It is the only color that matters. And in just a few short years, it's all back to normal. |

I have to thank She-Snake Eyes, because thank to Her, I do not buy G.I.JOE's comics anymore.

Captain Marvel actually isn't a bad character for the most part.
Ms. Marvel wasn't too terrible either, until she had an entire comic about voting against a certain candidate because racism bigotry fascism something something. |
