Bootlegs and knock-offs are very common in a country like mine where authorities do not give importance to copyright issues as long as they do not affect our own citizens (for instance you can buy bootleg DVD copies of the latest hollywood movies for $1 a piece, even lower if you buy them by the lot). I am not trying here to start a discussion about moral or ethical issues (the above thing is something I neither approve nor disapprove since I do not watch movies anyways) I only want to point how children on this part of the planet have access to cheaper toys (low quality as well) due to easier access to bootlegs. In my childhood I owned several bootlegs from different collections but as I have mentioned in other threads G.I. Joe was the love of my life since day one.
I am in the mission to recover every toy from the line I had when I was a child and I fondly remember a G.I. Joe bootleg series (they had o-ring molds too) that had about 6-8 different action figures. My mom purchased me three of them but I lost them as the rest of my toys :( , I have tried to find them on Ebay but it seems that it disappeared into thin air. Perhaps fellow collectors could have a clue who they are, here the description: The name of the collection (as far as I remember) was "J.A. Colonel" the molds of these figures ressembled the Joes but they were done in a cheaper plastic. They all had straight arms, the good guys were all in military green and the only different I had which I suppose was a bad guy was totally in white, arabian like, with a turban I do not remember the color of the boots (red perhaps) and the belt was red If I recall correctly. Anyone could give a clue? Perhaps the collection got to other countries with another name. Any help appreciated. |

Is this your boy right here?
REMCO American Defense Enemy Weapons Officer. The line was also branded as "National Defense" and a few other names here in the States. I wouldn't be surprised if it was marketed under different names overseas.

Yeeeeeeessss! That is the guy! I doubt the one I had was made by Remco, the toy quality was really low as far as I remember in comparison to the Joes I had. I would swear the card had the name "J.A. Colonel" on it. Perhaps an attempt to look very similar to "G.I. Joe" J.A. rather than G.I.
That was the reason why I never could find them since I was looking for the wrong name. Thank you so much. |
