I know there are a decent amount of people who stopped collecting vintage or even traded vintage for 25th/ME stuff when it came out. I've gone back and forth with it a few times though. I always think I really want to collect vintage then I just get burned out on it. I love vintage but the new stuff is just so much more fun to "play" with and to look at.
What are some of your reasons you stopped collecting vintage? Edit: Sorry, the title should have said, "stopped." Last edited by JohnnyAngel77; 10-13-2009 at 10:08 AM.. |

What are some of your reasons you stopped collecting vintage? In fact, nearly all the ME figures I collected I planned on giving to my son. But, while the ME stuff looks cool, it’s really not for kids—it’s a collector's line. I've since been collecting the ARAH new sculpts from 04-07 (comic three packs) for my son. Those figures have new head sculpts and have the ruggedness of the old ARAH figures. I'll be giving him those instead. I'm really not interested in the ME/ROC lines as far as the figures are concerned. As to the vehicles, bring them on! I have 15 ME HISSes, 3 Ghost Hawks, 3 Vamps, 8 Trubble Bubbles etc. etc. As long as they can fit in with the ARAH figures, I want them. I especially love the Ghost Hawk. As for the ROC line, I am looking forward to getting the PIT (which I believe is very much in the ARAH vein) I also want the Night Raven and the Snake Trax. Also, sign me up for the Black Snake armor for sure.

I prefer the vintage figures, and never got to deep into the 25th because I had most of the vintage figures. I have mostly bought troop builders, store exclusives, and new characters in 25th. That is why I prefer the movie line to the 25th.
I also think that while the 25th figures may look better than vintage, the vintage are better products. Kevin |

I had a ton of ARAH Joes and vehicles as a kid, and still have some to this day in various degrees of disrepair.
I have to say, if it weren't for 25th/ME and RoC figures coming out, I probably wouldn't have started collecting Joes again. I just find them as better overall figures to display than vintage Joes, as sacrilegious as that may sound.

I had a "collection" of vintage stuff before the 25th stuff came out. It was odds and ends from my youth, but I didn't really "collect" again until the 25th stuff came out. When I saw that they were releasing a 25th Firefly, I got it, and then I thought it would be cool to have all of the Firefly's, you know, kinda come full circle.
So I started doing research on the internet and realized there was a ton of stuff I missed. I got every Firefly out there (except version 2 -- YUCK!) and then when I did more research and got into customizing, I began to buy all 25th/ME. I did buy a few vintage things, mainly figures that I liked from the past and that I was making ME customs for. I also bought a few vintage vehicles, nothing major. Right now, the only vintage piece I'd like that I had as a kid is the battle platform. So, really, I quit collecting vintage stuff as a kid. I look at them now, and to me they pale in comparison to the ME detail, although when we were kids this was high-tech stuff. So right now it's all ME/ROC for me.

I've just moved on.
I love the vintage figures, always will. However I've always just collected what they are putting out at the time. I've never really looked back. |

I do want the battle stations though. Vintage or otherwise.

I've done just the opposite. I've stopped collecting 25th/ME/ROC and gone back to vintage. My reasons are:
1. Price. $7.99/$8.99 is too much and even though I make decent money it's not worth it. 2. Repaint after repaint. Love the 83 Torpedo but now we got a yellow one, red one (Cobra diver) and one you're trying to pass off as Deep Six. Thanks but no. Don't even get me started on Wild Bill. 3. Frankenjoe's. Nice try Hasbro but that ain't Cutter, Breaker, Grunt, Charbroil, Monkeywrench, Wet Suit..... etc. 4. Blowing the dust off VvV/JvC vehicles and selling them again. Those are my reasons and mine alone. I'm sure somebody will want to debate it. Actually, if and when Hasbro makes a vintage era Lifeline, Low Light, Footloose I will buy them. I've come too far and invested too much money and time to completely throw in the towel. Vintage is my real love and it just fits me better. More memories and more fun trying to complete the 1982-1986 run.

all 3 3/4 joes, including the new 4 inch ones. the only lines i do not get are the 12 inch, sigma, or savage lines (not that i do not procure a few every now and then...). the new ones seem to be better for display, as the old ones i know can take a lot of damge. In fact i never wanted to do customs on the old ones, but these new ones i do not mind tearing up. just miss the screw back, i noticed in ross the "versus the hulk" troopers have a screw back with a 25tjh style body. hell they even looked like steel brigaders. COBRA!

I kinda do too, as far as ease of disassembly goes, but it does put you at another skill level to crack a torso and it does provide a little more articulation.
