I was wondering about how many of you are opening your figures as opposed to those who leave them in the package? I am collecting these for my son who is due to be born in may. When he gets old enough i will give him the figures to play with. I understand the purpose of a toy is to be opened and played with, but i know that collecting these and keeping them for a long time increases their value...

Well I choose to open most of my Joes and I leave a couple MOC because I just like the card art. It's true that keeping a lot of them MOC will eventually mean more value but it really isn't that fun of an aspect to me.
The experience of buying a toy feels incomplete if I go to the store, find a figure I've been waiting to find for a month, bringing it home, and then just look at it through its bubble.

When the Star Wars POTF2 figures began their release in 1995 I was buying 2 of each figure. 1 to open and one to keep sealed. After awhile that got out of hand and I wish I never did it. I now want to get rid of all of my carded figures, except for the exclusives.
As for these 25th Anniversary Joes, at first I wanted to do the same, but now I'm not even buying every released figure. I'm only buying the ones that I like, and I'm opening them as well. I do buy an extra of my favorite character to keep MOC though. |

FREE THE FIGURES!
I open them. To me, they look much cooler displayed out of their packages. Last edited by WildWeasel; 01-25-2008 at 02:04 AM.. |

The only one that I have kept sealed on the card is one of the Wave 4 Cobra Commander, just because he was always my favorite and so I keep it to display. Everything else comes out of the package. I save the cards, but I don't like just looking at them in the package.

I keep all mine on the card, the card art is what I like to display. I will eventually buy some loose figures off eBay to display along side my MOC collection.

Thus far I have not opened any of mine. My son has a collection going and whenever I feel the need I just "play" with his.
I am also attempting to collect two of everything. If I were to eventually open any I will open the boxed sets and keep the carded versions of those (Duke, CC, Destro, etc) unopened. I feel the carded versions are more asthetically pleasing than the boxed sets. I would probably open the comic packs as well. The temptation to open is too great... |
