If its something hard to find/get (Me being in Canada) I might keep it MOC. But so far I've opened most of the figures. I tried my best to open the bubble carefully, and of course keep the cards intact.
What do you guys use to store your loose figures in? I have a 84' Storm Shadow which is in remarkebly in good condition. |

Well I had tried to go the MOC route once.. then got to thinking about stuff. I still have all my original stuff from 82' never sold it or thought about selling it. so what good would figures MOC do me if i never plan to sell? Even so.. how much could they actually go up in value? It all depends on the figure and the collector buying it.
so instead of dealing with all that headache.. I open mine up and display them. All of my 12' joes line the top of my walls all around my office.. still looking for a place to put the 25th.. Right now they are in one of the slots where a DVD player goes in my entertainment center in the office.. the TF Alternators take up all of the top part.. I do have some older carded figures though.. an 82' short fuse, 92' black cobra comander, and the mess up file card payload using barbecue's body for the star brigade.

I release them from bubble hell. I enjoy the smell of plastic freedom. Then it's time to customize and battle.

If you look at modern toy lines, very few items that are available at regular retail (exclusives are different, but even they suffer from time to time) have appreciated in value much over the rate of basic inflation. Most have lost value and in the cases of many items, they can barely be given away. Look at the new sculpt Joes from '02-'06. Many of those were hot and expensive at one time. Now, they can be had for less than retail in most cases. Whose to say that in 10 years there won't be new Joes that make the 25th figures look as antiquated as vintage Star Wars figures do next to their modern counterparts?

if there are not played with they are not toys. i open all of mine before i ever get to the house, drives my g/f crazy. and since i truly love my joes, ill never be selling them so why not open them. also, as mike t said, if the triple in value in 10 years, whats the point. with inflation it will be like selling them for the same price you payed for them when you bought them.

I open 1 of every regular figure for display and troop build (Troopers) that I like. I also keep a sealed set of every figure and variant I can find.

I will be keeping these MOC.
Usually, I open my toys and display them...well, in my bachelor days. I gave it up a few years ago because I'm trying to cut down on clutter. The '82-'89 Joes WERE my childhood. I'm collecting them now w/ no official plans on how I'm going to display them yet. I want ppl to SAFELY look at the figure, look at the card art, and flip it over to read the file cards. There are a couple of character groups that I (will) open and display around other areas (work desk, near the 360, etc). It's been fun. |
