An arctic character fighting in freezing temperature for 10 days at a time and they chose to put a short sleeve tee on his modern version? Doesnt seen very thought out.

I see...
Its a way to show Canadian toughness at enduring cold weather. So is that figure an official Hasbro figure or a Con custom?

The core of debate on that comes from yojoe.com rather than an official source. Beginning in 2009 when the Canadian con switched to ME figures, every figure produced/released did receive approval from Hasbro (not sure if Hasbro or Hasbro Canada) which is why the con was allowed to release a (shitty) version of Backstop in the 2009 set. That was the first year there was a set rather than just a figure (or two) and I don't know that the individual ARAH-style figures received approval. (the owners o the Con sold it in 2012ish and the wiki they maintained with the useful information about that sort of thing was taken down) As far as anyone at Hasbro was concerned at the cons after 2009, the pieces were as official as any other con product (like the joe club). Yojoe.com however refuses to put up any piece which is not "factory production" thus liminating any custom made con product whether it has Hasbro's approval or not. Though interestingly they DO list the 2009 (and later) comics from the convention as official product. So go figure on that logic. G.I. Joe Comic Book Archive - Canadian JoeCon Comic While it is not "an official hasbro figure" that would also rule out anything produced by FunPub which we've accepted. It is "licenced and approved by hasbro" however, which puts at least the modern era releases on the same standing as Fun Pub's original characters. (If I can find someone who has the old ARAH style figures/file cards I realy would like confirmation of whether those got approval or not) |

Do any of the canadian sets have that? Maybe hasbro gave an ok to proceed and not sue, but did not officialy license the figures. I read that the figures are very fragile and fall apart easy. That chrome tank is very cool

The club stuff says "licensed by" and "used with permission" on the packaging. Is there a scan showing these labels on the Canadian con items?
Agreeing to "look the other way" is not the same thing as selling someone a license. |

The "used with permission" sentence is essentially identical to the second sentence used by the club on their products for this purpose. Canadian: "G.I. JOE and its logo are trademark marks of Hasbro and are used with permission. (C) 2012 Hasbro. All Rights Reserved" Joe Club: "G.I. Joe and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro and are used with permission. (c) 2013 Hasbro. All Rights Reserved." EDIT: the same can also be found here on the file card from one of the 2009 characters shown about half-way down this article: Canadian JoeCon 2009 Exclusive Set The interesting argument arises for guys like Timbit, Snowbank and Shiver who were released as figures before these sets and there is no similar point on their file cards. HOWEVER, bios for each WERE included in the 2009 comic book which was approved by Hasbro, so I'm not sure if that's retroactive permission or not... There is a slight loose arm issue with one of the 2010 figures (Traceroute) and the traditional issue with the Snow Serpent Legs where they were used with the Coyote troopers but other than that I have never had issues with any of the ME ones. Maybe the ARAH ones? Those have long been impossible to find in an affordable way so I don't know.
