Hi everyone, i am new to this site and thought i would join up. I haven't been collecting for years and then a month ago i was walking through the toy isle at target and saw the 25th line and instantly started right back up. Since then, Target is the only place that has had any joes. Wal Mart and TRU have been dried up for a long time. I was reading on here about all the barcoding from wal marts computers and decided to ask them myself.
I called a few of the wal marts in my area and had alot of rude toy dept managers who said they have no idea when the figures came in, it was just random. The last one i called, the lady was nice and offered to look up the shipment dates for me, which i thought was really nice. I didn't really believe the other wal marts saying they had no idea when shipments were coming when this lady had dates. Why is wal mart like that? Has anyone else had this problem? |

The blame that Walmart can take here is poorly trained employees in some cases, Underpaying in others. The employee shares the blame for poor work performance. At the rate they are paid most don't care and then you have some who do care but do not know how to look it up... due to being poorly trained. You are lucky you found a good employee.

Well sometimes it's easier for people to just say "I don't know" rather than actually give the effort to be helpful.
Which is also the reason why they say "All you see on the shelves is all we have" but in the back rooms they can have stock from two years ago. So it depends on who you talk to most of the time.

I don't think it's a problem that is unique to Wal~Mart. In my experience very few people in the retail sector really care about how well their store does (unless it has a direct and immediate impact on their income) and thus they couldn't be bothered to try to help someone find something, particularly over the phone.

My sister got a job at walmart awhile ago and she worked the night shift, including unloading trucks.
I went in one day and asked her if they got in any new Star Wars figures. She, my own sister, told me what they had was out. I was flabbergasted. I mean, she knew how much I collected them and yet, she didn't look nor had she looked previously to help me. I couldn't believe it. |

The employees really don't know. They just stock and some are happy to get the toy section, some are filling or some have to do too much crap while earning so little.
Now...the question I do ask if the employees are typically, when was the last time they stocked so-and-so on the pegs. And sometimes, if they know remember the figures that they put up. But the best way to gauge things is to look at the toy sighting areas for your state. If you see that toys have come in and was reported, then you know that there is a chance it's coming to your store. On hisstank, I look to see when the Southern California and Northern California folks get there's...since I'm in Central California. Once I see a report go up, I start checking that same day by calling the stores at 8:00 a.m. (mainly Target or KM) and for Wal-Mart, I have to sometimes instruct them to where the thing is located and tell me what's on the pegs while on the phone. But yeah, most of the time they can't answer your question unless they collect themselves which is rare. Otherwise, if you are hunter...you go out and hit the stores early in the morning or late at night.

to be perfectly honest...and coming from experience....sometimes the people working in the toy departments have been asked about the same toys so often in a short span of time, they already know in advance which toys are out of stock (in the stockrooms or on the pegs) and can just give you the information you are looking for without having to check....because they have already checked maybe five or six time before you personally got there at that store. think about it.
then again....some just don't care. mostly tho, i tend to feel that most try to be helpful. |
