I thought the whole point was that he was a stealth pilot. He was so stealth, that he never left an impression on anyone.

I have heard the same thing too, but Marvel was publishing the ARAH comic too. How could they have a copyright issue with themselves?

They probably didn't want to use the name in another comic and cause confusion. If readers heard Ghost Rider was in GI Joe comics, many might expect it to be the Marvel character. It's also possible they didn't want to help advertise a toy that borrowed its name from one of their long time characters. |

My only beef with Bazooka was his weapon, and his card art. The figure had a cool design and helmet, but he had this tiny little weapon that was smaller than a LAW rocket, with these little rockets on his back, dwarfed by Zap's weapon (of course, the HEAT Viper's weapon was overkill). And the card art had him holding it like a mortar or something, but I guess they didn't want to put him in the same pose as Zap.

I would never be bothered seeing Captain Grid Iron being whacked. He is the dumbest character in all of fiction. I take Orko from MOTU more seriously.

The inevitability of having a cast as large as the Joe team is that some characters are just not going to come off as cool as others.
And honestly in a cast as large as Joe it became the simple problem of you know we're going to start repeating certain types of characters so how does one make them different from each other. Bazooka for any cool he might have (and he is one of my favorite characters) was just never gonna recover from the very thing that made him stand out on the cartoon. He was a doofus. It was over the top sure but it also made him different. The bottom line is not every idea can be a winner like Flint or Duke or Snake Eyes or Roadblock. Sooner or latter you get Bazooka or Captain Grid Iron. |

Good points.
The line was made to appeal to kids and kids are fickle as heck. There was a lot competing for their attentions, so characters had to be distinct. Sometimes that led popular characters and other times to big misses, as certain characters "peg warmed". Same with Cobra. Outlandish ideas and costumes might make a character "cool" like Destro or Zartan, or a "fool" like how people see Crystal Ball and Raptor. The latter two suffering from little media usage didn't help. |

Bazooka and Capt Grid Iron eh? No love for the football themed Joes? How about the Fridge?
Personally, I wouldn't miss Colonel Courage. While I understand a pencil pusher is a vital part of the military structure, I think they call them "acquisition specialists", I just never needed to know who kept the Joes' fridge stocked with YoJoe colas. |
