Did any of them get killed in action or even get wounded in battle? I don't remember a time when I played with them that any of my joes died? (Except when I grew out of them and they met their ultimate demise.. ) They always seem to escape being blown up or even shot. Cobra troops on the other hand always died but another one took their place.
I swear I must have been influenced by the cartoon because no one ever dies in a cartoon! Just curious about how my fellow members treated your joes in action. |

My stories tended to be something along the lines of the last man standing. A group of Joes fighting overwhelming odds (difficult to do when I was too little to army build) until there was only one left. I was a little too dramatic for my age.

When I played, everyone died. There may have been times when one or two survived the battle, but mostly they all met their doom. Is this a bad sign?
Edit: Glad to see I'm not the only one!

I don't really play with them but I pose them in battles. Gung Ho dies a lot because he has loose legs and I usually get tired of trying to get him to stand up and Storm Shadow is a doctor because I don't have a medic for Gung Ho.
And the troopers die pretty quickly, usually they're just sprawled on the ground to be stepped/danced on.

I never killed off the Joes. Vehicles might get trashed, and Cobra definitely lost a lot of guys (or the same 3 over and over again). But none of the Joes died.

Figures with broken thumbs/crotches/o-rings were always "death fodder".
I'd make sure to have vehicles roll over them to simulate the "death", or have someone get their finger shot off by lowlight (he did this a whole damn lot to my Major Bludd figure). |

I remember playing with my old Joes as a kid and every time it was a different story. Sometimes it was my figures on a stupid hunt for something, ala "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Sometimes it was a bloody battle to the death. Sometimes it was a love triangle trist between Baroness, Scarlett, Zarana and the Dreadnoks! I had an active imagination and never got tired of coming up with new and downright silly scenarios for my Joes back then. This is going to sound so stupid, but I even remember playing the radio and then pretending that the figures were performing on stage. Wow, was I a lame-ass kid or what?!
BTW - most of my Joes "died" when I was about 13 or 14 (I had "grown up" to baseball cards and comics now) and I used them for baseball home run derbies, BB gun practice, fuel for fires and as firecracker fodder. - sigh - Last edited by DarthBrett; 01-23-2008 at 07:51 PM.. |

My entire childhood collection met their demise at the hands of a 5 year old. It was the summer of 1990. I had taken the ill advice of the adults in my life, and gave them all to my nephew. He, nor myself had any idea how valuable they be some years later. We both still regret it. Oh well I guess that's what Ebay is for

Oh, we are also talking about the "big death" of the Joes. My father threw everything out over the years, a most unglorious end. After I saved the last bunch (including Snake eyes v1, Doc, Torpedo and Cutter)from the dumpster when visiting my parents, I determined to rebuild the collection - just in time for the 25A series to get in full swing!

Mine never "died" because I would take so long in creating the battlefield, which would take up the entire living room, that I rarley got to the actual battle. Ha.
Though I remember my favorite "mission" was escorting the Rolling Thunder through enemy territory. |
