Some of mine did for "Storyline" Purposes. I'd bring back Members of Joes from the dead as Cobra members. But if someone got broken, like an O-Ring or something, I'd send them to the "Infirmary" until my older brother could fix them.

When I used to play with them with my best friend only two characters ever died Pathfinder and Rock and Roll V2. But man what stories we used to make up.

In toy playing...sure, when I was a kid...had my GI Joe's vs. Masters of the Universe bad guys. Go through torture sessions with Beast Man or Skeletor trying to stretch a Joe (and seeing if the O-ring would snap) and then my Joe's would die. Then have the thumb snap torture to see if one of the weapons...think it was Triclops...can snap a thumb of the Joe's with his sword.
I also recall going through "stop the bomb" sessions and have my Joe's try to unarm firecrackers and strap firecrackers to see if they can survive. Another one was those rockets. Pretend Cobra Commander would have the Joe tied up on the rocket. Tie one up to those rockets (yes, the one which you launch in the air) and see if the Joe would survive the burn or the descent on impact. Another was a friend and I would have our Joe go up and down skateboard ramps at different heights and roll that Vamp over several Cobras for pure destruction. Ahh the good ol' days...hehe

my Joes died all the time, and then when I played the next time I just started over. though, there was one time I played a storyline for nearly a month, and at the end Cobra was destroyed and only a handful of Joes were left standing. as far as child toy playing goes, it was epic, with heartbreak, sacrifice, tragedy and victory!

I remember my first figures were Duke,Snake Eyes, and Wild Bill w/Dragonfly. I had no brothers growing up so i would load up all 3 of my figures in the Dragonfly and fly to my sisters room while she was playing with her barbies and blow them up....

Several of mine were attacked by these huge Joe-eating dogs as they made their way across the carpet. That's how a lot of mine met their fate. Some had their insides filled with explosives and were blown to bits. Now that I think about it, my GI Joes suffered horrible deaths. What could be worse than being eaten by a dog or having an explosive stuffed into your stomach?
I found a couple GI Joe survivors at my mom's house last year. One was one of the twins Tomax or Xamot. My kids were playing with him, and unfortunately he lost an arm recently when he fought off a Joe-eating toy fox terrier. It's a shame that he made it all those years without anything other than the scar on his face, and then he loses a limb like that just recently. |

A lot of my 82-84' figures are, well, disfigured! I was hard on them, some of them have dart holes in them, some burnt from firecrackers, broken off hands/feet, Will Bill has no hat, Snake Eyes has some weird white stuff on him.
I need to clean the old ones up. What do you recommend? Dishwasher soap and a toothbrush? Fortunately my 84' Storm Shadow is in mint condition and has his accessories! |

me: "sorry, all your guys are dead....that's just the way it is."
my little brother: "why, all the time my guys die?...and why do you always have Firefly, Storm Shadow & Beachhead?" me: ::evil laugh:: "you only have Chuckles left. that sucks" ...good ole' days. |
