Several months ago I placed a BBTS preorder for a set of G.I. Joe DVD battles packs. The set had DVD battles 2, 3, 4 and most importantly set 5 BEST OF THE 80's. Well guess what, the ship date was for may and I just received an email from BBTS saying that they didn't receive their shipment of best of the 80's from Hasbro so they have to cancel everyone's preorders.
Heres what I think happened, BBTS realized not long after listing their prorders, that these are going for $100 on eBay, so why sell them for $25? "We'll wait a few months and say we didn't get them and then sell them on eBay for a mint" . They may have done the same thing when the 25th line first launched. Retailers are realizing that they can artificially alter the availability of these products, even HASBRO does it. Why is it that Hasbro runs out of stock on certain figures and these same figures show up in the AFA graded section of HTS? It's all bs man and I'm tired of it, I'm tired of these scalper etailers, I'm tired of retailers abusing collectors just because they know we will pay.

I think that's making alot of assumptions.
It is just possible that Hasbro didnt ship out as many as they thought they were getting or Hasbro canceled those shipments. Hasbro has said a couple times recently that no more DVD packs are being produced. They have also said that various stores should have stock but it could still be in warehouses and not on shelves yet. |

Yeah, your right, but its just too much of a coincidence and it happens often with the hottest items.

I don't know.... Holding on to product is a serious gamble espceially where HAsbro is concerned. Look at the first wave of 5packs that dropped in price he second the single card versions came out. BBTS had no idea that the 'best of' pack would be so hot until well after the fact. I don't think it's coincidence since this is happening to everyone. Not every etailier had a mafia don pow wow strategizing how they would screw Joe Consumer.
The fact that shelves are still stocked with DVD packs that have a snowball's chance in hell of selling is pretty much all the proof you need for why no new sets are hitting shelves.

I know that your right about this, I know a reasonable answer when I hear it. No mafia pow wows, LOL. In retrospect my theories sound ridiculous, I'm just blowing off steam. But there is a legitimate point a brought up; why is Hasbro selling AFA graded figures? When did Hasbro get into the secondary resale market?

Anyway, as for how they got into it...why not? They sent out a survey a year or two ago asking about AFA products and whether there was any interest in them. Clearly the results told them that a market was there, and now they've worked to try to fill it. I've never bought an AFA figure in my life and probably never will, but obviously some people do, and if that's how they want to spend their money, more power to them, and more power to the retailers/e-tailers who sell 'em. That's business. |
