Kirk Lazarus: Everybody knows you never go full retard. Tugg Speedman: What do you mean? Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed... |

It's not really a Negativity thread for the most just all the arguing back and for doesn't do it justice
What i think Cold Slither was doing was hoping that folk could point out some good things that might cheer him up about the film and new stuff coming out. I was hoping my post on page two might help do that in by disagree in a respectful way. I started this thread to vent some depression and to hear some opinions. Only a few posts here have been irrelevant and juvenile. (My and Zefram's pics come to mind) In reality it was the "positive" guys that came in here and started calling people out. As long as that's done intelligently I'm fine with it. |

I think Hasbro is doing a good job with the movie. All the people that I work with who know that I like G.I. Joes have told me how good the movie looks to them. I think Hasbro is hitting their target of a genreral crowd, you cant make a full buget movie for a select group of people. I also look at the movie as a kind of reboot, bringing things to the modern time much like the Ultimates comic series.

I hope you guys don't buy any of the toys, more for my son and I.
I guess I can relate because I refuse to see Star Trek 90210 because the trailers look retarded. Then again, I am not a big fan of Star Trek. To be honest, not a single trailer this year has me amped for its respective movie. Well maybe The Hangover, that one has me intriqued. Let's be honest tho, I am reading a lot of the same complaints I read about Transformers 1, and that movie wasn't exactly a bomb. I thought Transformers looked retarded, especially with almost all of them GM vehicles, but I was entertained and my kids liked it. I am sure ROC will do the same for most people and maybe sell a toy or 2. As for all the bitching about the toy quality, have you people not seen the plastic abortions packaged as Terminators and Star Trek figures? God awful, tho I do like the ST accessories. Gots to love the interwebs and its plethora of whiners and bitchers. This entire website needs to be deleted from existence.

Man this thread makes the 7 pack preorder thread look "intelligent" lmao
But seriously, What happened to the days of store sighting thread and good times? All i see now are threads debating about the movie ( which in my opinion are getting old). I must be getting nostalgic for the good ol' days (aprox. 1 yr ago!) |

I think the problem is, the trailers are supposed to make you go "WOW! I gots to see that!" even if they put the best 30 seconds of the movie in the trailer, it has to grab you.
So far, none of the trailers have shown me anything promising. They are all used up concepts from other sci-fi movies with the names of characters and the brand name slapped on. For all we know, it was in fact a different movie all together and Hasbro bought the script and tweaked it to fit the characters. I will NOT be going to the theater to see this film and I will be waiting for redbox to save as much money as possible. I have no qualms over the repercussions of the whole "the line will die if we don't support it" B.S. If they really wanted sales and better fan feedback, they would have made a better movie as well as better toys. The classic line was a money maker hand over fist. When you have a golden egg laying goose, you don't kill the damn thing for the meat.

Proof? This has never been reported by any outlet. It's a fan-myth that bashers seem determined to try to make legitimate. The G.I. Joe script went through several iterations over several years, many of them even more unfaithful than what we're getting, but they were still specifically entitled "G.I. Joe" and still were when it underwent it's last "rewrites" just prior to the writer's strike.
The classic line exceeded expectations, that doesn't mean it was a top earner. When you only have as little shelf-space as the 25A line enjoyed and still have pegwarmers, you're certainly not getting anywhere close to the money that more popular franchises are making. Hasbro makes money when the retailer buys from them. They've probably already made almost as much money just with initial orders from RoC than they made in the entire 25A line. Every major retailer will be carrying it, and G.I. Joe will have 3-5 times as much shelf space as it has now. That's a far larger volume of product, which means far more money for Hasbro. If you have a golden egg laying goose that's going to get in the way of the incoming goose laying even bigger golden eggs, you don't keep the old one around just because a few people think the first one's eggs are shinier. The movie was on a timetable. The 25A line was originally supposed to be 2 5-packs and that was it (which shows you how low Hasbro's expectations were...not exactly hard to "exceed" those). Instead it did much better than Hasbro expected, so they produced it longer than initially intended. But the movie was coming regardless, and it's idiotic to expect Hasbro to turn away from long-established business models strictly due to message board fanboy whining.
