Have you encountered ignorant prople when trying to purchase or return a toy? I'm not talking about the lazy toy department workers who roll thier eyes when you ask them if they have any joes, but the workers in customer service or at the registers.....
A feew weeks back, my friend picked up an extra wave 2 comic pack set for me, but since I have them, we went to target to return them and to look for wave 5 for him, and the lady at the customer service desk remarked " Couldn't sell these on Ebay, huh? I shouldn't even take them back " Although he paid cash and had the reciept, she only gave him a gift card, out of spite I assume... When we purchased the Valor vs Venom figures from Dollar General, the cashier remarked " Why are you guys buying these? They must be worth money " In a very ignorant tone, like we were stealing money from her directly....... Why do people feel like us buying/returning toys is taking money out of thier pockets? They do not own Target, whether I return something or not, they get paid regardless.........Why do they stick thier 2 cents in???? I'm so tired of being treated like a fool or sub-human just because I like GI Joe... |

Make comments back. What can they do? Complain to the manager, be an ass. Whatever it takes. You shouldn't have to be treated that way for purchasing toys. It's none of their business what you do with your money.

That sucks. I haven't had any issues like that. Last week, wave 5 hit my area Targets(I checked 3 of the 4 stores) and I bought 2 extra Black SE for customs. A few days later I returned them, because I decideded not to do the customs and of course the fig's aren't in the system, so I had a "generic" receipt, but Target took them back, no problem. A few days after, I bought a Clone Trooper w/armor, that I forgot I already had and returned that, with no problems.

I've gotten a couple of weird looks, usually when making a return, but never to the severity of what you've described.
I wouldn't really talk back to them, though. After all if you go to that store often the chances are you'll see them again.

The last two times I've bought Wave 5 at Target, they have not been in their system either and I got the generic 'merchadise' receipt.

In your specific situation you should have kicked up a fuss and gotten a manager. That kind of crap always pissed me off when I was a manager. It is ignorant and does nothing but cause problems for the management when they get yelled at for some idiot employee's actions.
I would say in almost all cases there is no reason whatsoever for an employee to be ignorant. However, having worked retail for a few years I know that sometimes I can be forgiving if the customer is being ignorant/abusive first. I remember one time when a guy made a 16yo cashier cry because she got the wrong price on an item and he lit into her. This was a six foot guy and she was 5 foot nothing and one of those quiet types. He actually came up to me and complained about her, then I went and talked to her while she was crying. It was a mistake, but dummy had to be a big man with the girl. I went back to him and told him to leave and never come since he felt it was ok to abuse a minor. He obviously had a few choice words for me, but being a big guy myself I guess he didn't feel like a challenge. |

1) I've never worked for Target, but it's not uncommon for bonus plans to factor in how many credits/returns a store does. If that's the case, then in a certain manner of speaking you were taking money out of her pocket. I know I get irritated by people who buy things and then bring them back because they don't want them anymore. (Though a big part of my job is to prevent the customer from ever noticing that...) 2) Working in retail means the world is going to treat you like their personal servant. I would imagine a customer service desk, which really means "complaints and problems" desk, is even worse for that. Perhaps she'd just been dealing with a real jerk. Perhaps you were, unintentionally, being a jerk to her? (A couple of my regulars are like that. They are absolute a**sholes, but they think they're nice guys because they're clueless about what my job actually involves. But it's hard to tell them without being offensive...) In any event, part of her job is to suck it up and not let crap like that get to her. So she screwed up, and you will be doing everyone - her, you, other customers, and Target - a favour if you contact the manager and report the situation. As long as you do it politely and calmly, rather than sounding like a ranting veangence-seeker, the manager will appreciate it. (If he doesn't, he's in the wrong line of work.) |

2 things, I'm sure she had dealt with many collectors with the same items and now she despises them all.
Hot wheel collectors are THE worse and I know first hand that alot of store employees cannot stand them. They rip into a case of 72 hot wheels (which is alot of merchandise to put away) and they usually only buy 1 or 2 cars leaving the worker to deal with that mess right away. If they refuse to open the case, the collector tries to get the case and open it anyway, or start the rant of "being a customer". When you walk into a store and ask an employee nicely to retrieve something or open something, they may have JUST dealt with unruly collector and are upset with the current situation and don't want to go through it again. As for customer service, they know people buy things to sell on ebay especially collectibles. Some customers treat it as a personal layaway and treat the employees as servants. However, their policies leave some people irritated thus causing unwanted attention. Their price match/adjustment policy is a joke. You cannot retunr something that was marked down and rebuy it. You are to wait until it gets restocked. Sometimes a worker will go ahead with it, but most of the time they enforce it. I know someone with some GREAT stories, but that's for him to tell it. |

Quite honestly, if employees deal with these situations on a day to day basis, all I can say is either get a new job or get over it! I can hardly see someone returning a toy which makes an employee lose a bonus as someone stated earlier. If i had a job where i worked my butt off, showed up everyday and did a good job and my manager tells me I'm not getting a bonus because someone returned a toy, I'd walk right out. The money does not come out of thier pocket personally, and if a company has a policy like that with bonus retractions, then they are idiots.
We were very polite when we returned the 2 packs, there was no reason for the customer service lady to make a comment like that, I should have complained but I'm not that petty.........I chalk it up to being a lazy employee with bad social skills. |

The only real partially relevant story I have is from when I bought my legions packs for 6.24. Cashier lady at the target said "damn, they are sharp looking for that price. I'll have to go get some for my grandson." I replied with "yeah, you can't beat it" but I felt like giving her one before I realized that they were legions packs.
