| Army builders over the years (observations) I would refer you to the first wave of Joe vs. Cobra figures with the t-crotches. (2002) That was was so expertly packed out it should have won an award:
Duke Vs Cobra Commander shipped late due to... "production issues." BUT... the other figures in the wave are (to army builders) marketing genius.
Wet-Suit Vs. Moray
Frostbite vs. Neo Viper
Heavy Duty vs. CLAWS
Gung Ho vs Destro
and
Storm Shadow Vs. Snake Eyes.
Now, this was a slightly lackluster wave. BUT... If you take the SE/SS and GH/Destro 2 packs, all the rest were effective army builders, for Joe OR Cobra.
Army builders are tricky. The one thing that plagued troop collectors during 2000-2005 was that in order to buy ten troopers you had to buy ten of an incidental Joe chatacter. If I wanted ten Rock Vipers (remade Range Vipers) I needed to buy ten Major Budds as well. The first wave of the new sculpties was unique in that Wet Suit and Frostbite both had masks. Thus, they could be ANYONE. You could swap Wetsuit's head and make another Diver Joe, or Frostbites head and more Snow Joes, or just leave them as (shudders) green shirts. THAT was effective marketing. Even later, with SPY Troops: Heavy Duty/Heavy Water 2-packs. I get 5 or ten Heavy Waters, but an equal number of Heavy Duty. How to fix? Slap the SPY troops gear on the exteas and all of a sudden I have a team of ugly Blaylock Nullifiers. Groovy.
