I just wish my son would know the joy of ripping through a Sears or Montgomery Ward Wish Book, trying to get past all the TVs and pajamas and find all the awesome toy setups, and circling everything you absolutely had to have in red pen lol.
And he'll never know the joy of a simple Saturday morning cartoon roster. It's cool to find one of those two page spreads in a comic book from 1984 or something, that shows everything new coming in September, from 6AM to 10'ish (then they started playing "teen" shows like Soul Train or American Bandstand, and it was time to get on your bike and start the day!) |

We mused about creating a saturday morning cartoon experience for him, but realized you can't plan an experience like that. It's an organic thing you can't force into being. Times have changed, cartoons are plentiful and on 24/7, rendering a morning of cartoons less of an event. It's a different world now, for sure, but my son still climbs on his bike eventually every morning to start his day, just like we did. The more things change, the more they stay the same. |

Miss the Sears Wish Book, highlight of the year. Right up there with finding the first vehicle of the new series and looking at the insert to find out about all the new toys for the year.

I was lamenting to my wife the other day how much I missed the old catalogs. The new ones simply show the toy and that's it. Those old catalogs showed the toys in action environments. The Whale was floating in water and offloading Joes into the sand or the Vamp was off-roading through the forest over a little log bridge. I loved that stuff!
