While there has been a fair amount of discussion about Joe & Cobra vehicles in various pages, I haven't yet found one specifically devoted to such discussions. So, taking a page from the fantastic File Cards thread, I thought I'd do up something similar here for discussions about the vehicles. There may be some repetition from old threads, but at least this can be a consolidated place for these discussions on any topic. The HAVOC (Heavy Articulated Vehicle Ordnance Carrier) - is it a combat vehicle or a resupply vehicle? The General - is it an assault vehicle or a rolling Forward Area Refueling Point? Does the main gun calibre of the MOBAT make sense? Is there a real life equivalent of the Pogo? Did the US Air Force ever fly Tomcats/Skystrikers? Anything vehicle-related is fair game!

Or how many vehicles I grew up thinking were Anti-Aircraft but were actually anti-Tank vehicles. Wolverine, Cobra Adder, Warthog.
One thing I always wanted to know is which vehicle has the largest calibre Gun?

You'd think it would be the Thunderclap, but its calibre isn't mentioned in the blue prints. Nor is the mortar with the General. Maggot is 155mm, Slugger is 175mm, and the Lynx of all vehicles is 203mm.

Yeah the Lynx seems to win although The Thunderclap or the giant Mortar in the General must be the largest. Then there are all the Laser cannons.
Here's one I just came across for the Paralyzer. Those missles are listed as anti-radar, electronically charged, communication deactivation missles. Sort of a cool use for the vehicle. The name Paralyzer makes more sense now, although the packaging is more geared towards the gimmicky Tread technology

This is a great idea!
So much to cover with the vehicles. Anyone ever figure out what BUGG was supposed to stand for? I know Bellomo's book said it was never revealed, but that book is a few years old and I figure someone here has to know (or can at least make up something convincing.) |

You would think that, but the blue prints say otherwise. The Mauler is, according to blue prints, a 125mm cannon, while the Lynx is 203mm. I'm not saying it makes sense . . . but that's part of the reason for the thread!

Any idea what system might complement or work with the Paralyzer? And what the heck is Tread Technology?! |

The Thunderclap seems similar to the Atomic Annie (280mm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M65_atomic_cannon) or the Black Dragon (240mm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/240_mm_howitzer_M1). I don't know of any mortars bigger than 240mm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/240_mm_mortar_M240), which could possibly be the General's armament.

Any idea what system might complement or work with the Paralyzer? And what the heck is Tread Technology?! I imagine they would send a column of a couple of Earthquakes (to clear obstacles and for artillery), a few Paralyzers, and a few Parasites (for infantry support). That's if we're staying in that early 90s era. There weren't that many Cobra vehicles in those years. Last edited by DarthPudgy; 08-03-2016 at 08:46 PM.. |

How feasible is it for the HAL to exist in today's US military? DARPA is currently working on the High Energy Liquid Laser Area Defense System, which is planned for use against missiles, rockets, artillery shells and other projectile based weapons. Initially the weapon was called the HEL weapon (High Energy Laser), but that is where the similarity ends as the current configuration requires it to be mounted on a Naval destroyer.
