I expanded on the logic in my previous post. Please read everything I write before responding to avoid going in circles.
Quote:
The revised new rule would state that if you appear in a different series like Transformers but your origin is based on G.I. Joe canon rather than Transformers canon, then you are eligible for this poll. That is the only fair way to handle characters who "cross over" without potentially ignoring them completely. Any B.A.T.s are based on Joe canon just as Marissa is. Yes, this rule requires a bit of judgment to determine which canon a character was based on, but most rules have a level of judgment involved.

So those are two characters who advanced a story line. I don't see how Marissa did such a thing. Her file card doesn't even make sense: How can Hawk - who would have been in his early to mid 40s in 1982, still be in the military when Marissa is an adult? Since none of the comics or cartoons suggest Flint had a daughter or that Jaye was pregnant, that means she couldn't have been born until what - the mid 90's at the earliest? Say she was born in 95. She graduates Air Force Academy at, say, 22, does another one to two years of training before being picked up by the space program . . . we're into 2019. Hawk would be in his late 70s/early 80s.
I don't get it. I'm opposed. |

You keep using the word cannon, but the crossovers are all apocryphal. The only time Flint and Lady Jaye are ever married in any Joe media that I am aware of,Lady Jaye is murdered before reproducing.

"Actual humans", JJ. That means real humans, not fictional humans. Lifeline made it clear that he was referring to characters played by real-life humans. Read the rule. I don't care if you think it's illogical or inconsistent. That's the rule we followed to this point and we'll either leave it, abolish it, or revise it. Case closed. You've made your argument, now be done with it.

I understand that but I'd like to draw a line there if the majority of people agree, because it would limit the number of new characters that anyone can just create in a space of days and publish on Amazon. If the majority disagrees with this proposal, then we'll allow it.

I think people have made their points; I say the person running the polls gets final say and we need to move along. Every 50 or so polls these debates pop back up and while all arguments are good some people need to make their case and move on. We aren't changing the Joe world here people, we are simply having fun.

This was the context of lifeline's rule as I understood it and have interpreted it.
GI Joe characters not originating in Joe media but based on characters originally portrayed by in-the-flesh actors: Slaughter = eligible Piper = eligible GI Joe characters not originating in Joe media but based on characters originally portrayed by voice actors, cartoon/comic characters, or toys: Matt Trakker = ineligible Marissa = ineligible Stealth BAT = ineligible Auto Hound = ineligible There is a notable difference and again I don't care if you dislike it or think it's inconsistent. Thats the rule we've followed until now. I'd like to revise it but you're so uncooperative and uncompromising in your view points that I may just disregard all your arguments and simply make up my own mind arbitrarily and do whatever I think or whatever the majority thinks is best. This is no longer a debate. You can make suggestions and I'll consider them and that's it. |

There is logic to saying any crossover character who has appeared as an official GIJoe figure (not vehicle or accessory) is automatically eligible. Makes sense and would parse the argument decently.
I also think we should be open to characters like Bulletman, Invaders, 12-inch. They may be artificially low at this point, but think of it as a change made to remember characters who have been left out until now when the pool has become thinner. Last edited by Stalker; 07-02-2016 at 04:18 PM.. |
