we often forget that the gi joe mythos is basically a giant toy commercial in itself, IMHO Hasbro should be making kick ass toys that all the kids want to play with then use the toys as a backbone of thier multimedia ventures. what i personally think is missing is not a crazy action packed movie but true old school toy advertisements, hype the kids up and get them excited in a quick time frame rather than make them sit through a 2 hour long movie, let the kids use there imaginations to make thier own story. way back when Joe wasn't all that complicated, you would sit for a half hour after school and wach the latest adventure, then you would go off to creat your own with the joes you had.
just my 2 cents Enter Hasbro, who brokered a deal with Takara to bring Diaclone to the U.S., they new it needed a story because Hollywood has taught us that you need to care about the characters. Hasbro hired Marvel comics to come up with a background story and Mythos and as a result, when the Japanese were reintroduced to their Diaclones in the form of Optimus Prime and Megatron , Transformers blew up and sales went up by 400%. Without a story line and mythos you just have a bunch of plastic figures that look cool. |

Too late. Hasbro totally blew it with Resolute. How can you launch Resolute and not have any Resolute Snake Eyes available to buy? That is just unacceptable IMO.
IMO G.I. Joe will die an untimely death because Hasbro put all its eggs into the ROC movie basket. |

I predict that G.I. Joe can be very successful if Hasbro markets and advertises it a lot more. If you collected during the "new sculpt" years like me, from 2002-present(actually I've been collecting long before that) you probably remember how advertising and marketing for G.I. Joe wasn't sufficient. It was a common complaint amongst the fandom those days, and it's still a problem now.
What an example? G.I. Joe Resolute. Yes it did well. It would help if more people actually knew about it by way of advertising it much earlier. No ads. No commercials. Not until a few days before broadcast, and even then, where did we even learn that it was even going to show? The Adult Swim schedule. This is a property unlike others that Hasbro makes toys for, because unlike Star Wars, Marvel, and Indiana Jones, they OWN this brand. With a movie coming out and the collector fanbase already demanding more classic product, NOW is the time to start ramping up advertising and marketing efforts. The Modern Era line has done well on account of the fandom, word of mouth, and nostalgia, but just imagine how much better it could have sold if more people knew about it. Outside of the fandom, the average person, guys who collected RAH during childhood, might not even know about the Modern Era/25th line, and would probably buy some toys if they did. |

I hear waht a lot of you are saying, and I agree. Hasbro needs to increase their marketing. We got almos zilch in the way of info for Resolute, and then bam, there it was. It was funny, I got over 12 people into GI Joe because of that series, and whenever they come to my apt, they ask "Oh, who's this guy?" (Points to a custom Interrogator fromm kalibus). They ask what was different about the series than what I know from the comics, etc. They. Are. Interested. And they are so, because there is a story there. I heard "I had no idea GI Joe was this deep/had such mythos" countless times, and I know other people would have gotten hooked if Hasbro had jus ADVERTISED. I know three new collectors now because of Resolute, and 9 more fans of the storyline who will be snagging the Resolute DVD, but there could ave been so much more.

The purpose of making an animated series based around a toyline is to sell toys to kids.
An "adult themed" show, by its definition, is not targeted to kids. Its folly to believe that adult Joe fans will fully support any toyline that is produced based upon the show. They alone cannot guarantee the success/profitability of a line. Resolute is a niche product. I just can't see how Hasbro can justify the cost of an adult themed series here. |

Damn you and your logic, sir. Still, my argument stands, but you've made a valid point. |

GI Joe isn't going anywhere. GI Joe has been around since the 1960s in some form or another. ARAH came, went and came back. Even if it fails, the movie won't be the end. |
