Which year do you think was the best year for G.I. Joe Toys?
1982 saw the birth of 3 3/4" figures, but it wasn't until 1983 did we get the iconic HISS Tank, FANG, and Skystriker. But then again, who could forget 1985 with it's Mauler, FLAGG, and cartoon classics like Barbecue, Airtight, Tomax and Xamot. The 90s had its neon and spring loaded arsenal, and then... 2007 came and forever changed the way our hearts, minds, and wallets would view GI Joe with the advent of the 25th Anniversary line. So, when it's all said and done, which year do you think was G.I. Joe's finest?

My choice actually isn't on the list. For me, that year was 1986.
"New" characters like General Hawk, Lifeline, Beach-Head, BATS, and the Vipers came in... and the world of G.I. Joe as seen in Season 1 had changed. Maybe not in every way for the better, but I remember how exciting it was to meet G.I. Joe's new commanding officer. (I hadn't followed the toys and comics before then, so I was unaware that Hawk had appeared before) 1987 was pretty darn cool too, though, just because that was my first year of "oh wow did you see the new __________?" |

1986 for vinatage, i mean damn new concepts rocked and sometimes ruined joe world but what thought and iinovation, elite troops and specialty vipers, a clone emporer, the conquest of washington dc, amazing even if it wasnt held, i was blown away and owned nearly all the toys that year i was so moved.
but then 2007 let me own everything i ever missed out that has been made thus far and in so much more adult oriented detail, it hooked me right back in...not that i ever left but i was infrequently adding onto my vintage collection, now im spun up and spending on both, so much so that transformers, starwars, and heman have all but ceased and may lose their shelf space soon! |

I'd like to vote for a year from the 80's since it was bakc then that Joes help evolve my way of playing and all the memories from 1985...that said, the 25th/Classic line is the best in my mind with all of the updates and additional articulation. Nto to mention the loss of the o-ring which I Love. Gone are the broken crotches and thumbs.

'85... pivotal characters being Crimson Guard, Tomax & Xamot, Snake Eyes w/Timber, Eels, Snow Serpent... actually, EVERYTHING from that year was great!

2009. I still can't believe we're getting both Resolute and ROC in the same year... in the same summer in fact. IMO for better of worse the Summer of '09 is the make or break moment for the G.I. Joe franchise.
