Here's a little history - I played with Joes as a kid, then that started my collection up until high school. I packed my stuff up, stored it, and then got it back out when my son was born. Not so much for him because we needed the cash. I sold the majority of my collection by the time my son was 4.
Anyway I've had my 13 '82 figs and Renegades line displayed at one time or another and my boy has asked about them and never seemed too interested. Until recently, now at 6 years old, he has been wanting to pull down my '82 collection and drop them into the trenches. "Not going to happen" I say. So thank the heavens that my wife found a nice $15 score on craigslist! Despite my slight urge to keep everything, complete the stuff and tuck it away. I put the box out front and told Izak to go crazy . It was awesome to see him spend hours playing with stuff that I had as a kid. And it was double awesome to see Saira wanting to take all the Joes away from her brother so that she could play with them all. Plus my '82's are safe... for now |

Wow.. the Mauler and Whale are definitely worth it for that price and in that kind of shape. I wish I could find something like that on Craigslist. Lol
Great to see a new generation playing with joes.

This is why I don't mind getting "junk grade" figures when I buy lots of vintage figs. I know that somewhere out there a long time ago some kids used them for the purpose they were intended for, so having a few "well-used" ones in the mix of flawless loose ones adds to the sentimental value of the overall collection.

I let my kids play with my beat-up figures and vehicles. It keeps them away from my display ones. It brings back memories of playing in the yard with them myself. Good solid ones, like the APC are perfect.

I totally agree with the sentiment that these toys should be played with. I'm not a collector at all anyway, so whatever I find goes straight to my kids' loot (just like my vintage Joes I held back from my childhood days). Santa is very good to my children and the Joes around my house get plenty of exercise!
I have to say, I am deeply jealous of that $15 score. I managed ONE TIME to get a yard sale deal on some True Heroes and World Peacekeepers vehicles ($1 each for 2 Peacekeepers humvees and two True Heroes trucks, and $2 each for two True Heroes tanks) with medium playwear for my kids. The True Heroes trucks and tanks were missing minor parts and the humvees were missing a couple of doors (PTE stuff is fairly fragile for those who don't know). Still an outstanding deal as far as I am concerned, since they have given rise to hours of joyful play since then. I have never been able to even find loose 1/18 military stuff (Joe or otherwise) outside of eBay before or since that lucky day. Yard sales and Craigslist are a wasteland in my area. It's nice to see someone else get lucky, too.
