Has anyone ever thought out what tier levels your airborne/maritime vehicles & it's dedicated operators come under? Whether it's troop transport or individual/solo mission oriented.
For instance rotary-wing i.e. helicopter resources. Hasbro developers overloaded G.I. JOE forces with more than adequate helo assets. Cobra severely lacked in this dept. I recall the Mamba w/ Gyro-Viper (Cobra's only dedicated helo pilot) which is a badass attack chopper which I equate to an Apache; the open cockpit FANG series & the Crimson version of the SpyTroops Wildfire (downright ugly). Hasbro truly dropped the ball for NEVER making a Cobra troop transport helo or just expanding on this airborne resource. Either way... ST-6/DELTA/Rangers have a dedicated helicopter Tier-1 asset known as the 160th SPECOPS Aviation Regiment (SOAR). How would you equate that to Cobra? Eels have Morays/Lampreys (maritime). But Cobra really can't conduct mass helo ops. Your thoughts... Please... Luckily there are PTE, Lanard, etc that can stand in. The Hind that's been at Target could plausibly be what you're after. It looks crappy compared to the Eaglehawk, but when dealing with toys and stuff that's often out of scale with itself, there have to be some allowances.

the Joes have 4 attack fighters. The Tiger Rat, the Phantom X-19, the Mudfighter and the X-16. The X-16 might be intended as a dogfighter, but the F-16 IRL is a light attack aircraft as well as a interceptor so the X-16 could easily be used in both roles.

I prefer the PTE F/A-18. It's truly a remarkable toy.

What about the Thunder Wing, Skysweeper, and the Storm Eagle? All fighter jets?

Notice I said, "not MUCH in the way of", not "not ANYTHING in the way of". Thunderwing is another decent one if you can put up with the particulars [heavy, modern fits are a tough fit in the front], the other two really aren't full sized, else we could count the liquidator as the Cobra jet...

what's the Mudfighter if it's not a fighter? it's in the bleeding name...
the Phantom X-19 is at least a multi-role aircraft if not a dedicated attack platform. It carries two laser-guided missiles after all. The comics show it bombing Cobra Island's radar systems and ISTR it bombed targets in the Benzheen War as well. |

The thing has a propeller on the back, a fixed landing gear, and every weapon accessory is for air-to ground. Doesn't sound like a fighter to me.... it's also not a jet.

How do you forget about the Skystriker and Conquest? These 2 fighter jets are the poster children for the Joe air force.

The Rattler is a VTOL that take off from hidden bases and deliver a surprise strike and then disappear again. If it does have to engage in air-to-air combat, the pilot will certainly choose to fight the battle his way. |

Forward swept wings have the obvious problem of wing-tortion that traditional wings don't have. A method the experimental aircraft use to counter this was building complicated wings of composite design to counter the vicious cycle of twisting that would occur as angle of attack was increased. I'm not an expert, but it seems to me this would reduce the wing's space available to cary fuel and reduce the weight of munitions you could hang from them without restricting the movements of these composit materials. To pull a situation out of my head, yeah, you could put a couple 500k bombs under each wing and take them to target, but if you pull say, over 4gs while going over 400kn, the wing structure could fail. your views may vary..... The SkyStriker to me is probably the most versitile jet in either Joe's or Cobra's inventory. Yes it's a good A2G weapon, if you hung bombs off of it. But if it is to share any of the Tomcat's real world attributes it's also an expensive hangar queen. One of the pursuits of having the F-16 and F/A18 has always been to have a more affordable platform to perform A2G while still being competent enough in A2A to protect themselves. okay, so maybe I'll backpedal my original Joe comment. Maybe it's just because I want Hasbro or someone to make a joe-scaled Harrier or Lightning II so badly......
