I was deeply impressed by the DVD Battles sets released by Hasbro, the first four sets were perfect. I say this because each set contained one of the T.V. mini series, which are integral to the mythos, and the figures included were well chosen to represent the significant events of the mini series in question. For example, the first DVD battle set the irradiated Snake eyes carrying the red element canister and so forth. BRILLIANT!! As each set was released, I was thinking, "wow, whoever designed these DVD battles sets has a deep understanding of G.I. Joe!” Then comes set number five, and what a miserable disappointment.
The set contained a "best of the 80's episodes" DVD, the selling point being that these were the most popular episodes among fans, and the opening sequence to the 1987 G.I. Joe movie. The figures included are all relevant to this opening sequence. Hasbro got lazy and greedy and totally dropped the ball. I fully expected set five to contain the complete 1987 G.I. movie, NOT a "best of" compilation, most likely Hasbro wants to wait till the live action film is released and sell both films as a two pack. The figures should have been relevant to the film; LT. Falcon, Sergeant Slaughter, Pythona, a half reptilian Cobra Commander, a blind Roadblock with snake form Cobra Commander wrapped around his shoulders, Etc. get the picture? However, Hasbro chose to use previously released carded figures like Alpine, jet pack Duke, cobra trooper etc., just to save money by not having to create new molds. for the first time since Hasbro started the 25th anniversary line I am very, very disappointed by the product. I hope that Hasbro will correct this oversight by releasing a sixth DVD Battles set devoted to the awesome 1987 film. Last edited by cobralalalala!; 05-02-2009 at 02:51 AM.. |

I would like to know as well so I can get my head out of the sand and find one...
I htink this set is rather cool... An animated Duke, Sweet Commander, updated Trooper and Alpine... the first one.. True the episodes were lacking and the '87 movie would have been great, but it's a good set. Now all I have to do is find one.

I would love a G.I. Joe the movie based DVD set including the figures you have mentioned above. I know that we probably wouldn't have a chance at getting a Slaughter figure due to all of the rights and stuff, but the others you mentioned would be pretty sweet. I love the idea of the reptillian Cobra Commander and the blind Roadblock with the the Cobra Commander snake wrapped around his shoulders. Pythona would also be great but that would also make me want a Golobulus and Royal Guard figure as well. Then you can have another set with the new recruits such as Falcon, Jinx, Tunnel Rat and possibly a Big Lob.

I thought he was released in the 25th anniversary line, my bad. I have so many carded figures in storage I forget. In fact I hate it when I buy a figure I already have just because I can't remember if I already bought it or not. BUT!! you have to admit my Idea for set 5 is a lot cooler!

But, for what we have gotten, I have no complaints.

SCOOP, I like that idea bro! a new recruit battle pack with tunnel rat, Jinx etc.. The only problem with globulos is his shape, he wouldn't fit in the DVD battle packaging LOL
