I was just looking on YOJOE.COM ( by the way, a great site if you want a glimpse of what upcoming wave carded photos look like ) and came across Airborne from 1983. I totally do not remember this figure, and Ripcord seems to have taken his place by 1984.
I thought i had all the joes made in 83, but Airborne must have aluded me. I don't even remember seeing him on the cardbacks. Was he discontinued or am I just nuts???

he was in alot of the cartoons for a bit. he was the 2nd dragonfly pilot. while rip cord was always jumping out of the skystriker. airborne was the Helicopter Assault Trooper while ripcord was the Halo Jumper. so Ripcord didnt take his place as they both had different jobs.
no he was there up till 1985 In 1986 and 1987, Hasbro Direct offered Airborne as part of the "Original Adventure Team" mail-in set. |

While he wasn't one of the more popular characters in the cartoon, he was in the comics a bit early one.
The most famous thing I can remember seeing him on, other than his card and on the card backs, was riding in the rear of the Dragonfly on the front of it's box - http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/83/dra...nfly_box.shtml Airborne was always one of my favorites, mainly b/c I loved my Dragonfly so much and also b/c he came with a cool looking M16 carbine w/ bayonet, as compared to the regular looking M16 a lot of the other Joes came with. Makes me still want an "M-4'gery" to this day! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Carbine http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_mi...MCWA2F14M4.asp Eric |

He was a core character but I don't think he got much play on the toon (What little he did had him completely recolored so you probably wouldn't reconize him anyway)
Tell ya what, I'm only missing one figure from 83 as well I'll trade ya my Airborne for a Silver Pads Grand Slam |

Airborne saw some attention in the (somewhat) early comics. He copiloted the Dragonfly with Wild Bill and had an important role in one issue where he and Spirit kept watch on Snake Eyes while he was at his mountain cabin.
And I'm officially demanding that they make a 25th Airborne so he can go in my Apache with Wild Bill. There's gonna a whole lotta poutin' if this doesn't happen.

Airborne's big play in the cartoon was in the episode-"Operation Mind menace" when cobra kidnapped his brother because he had psy powers to use for evil. It is a good episode that starts out on easter island. I do also seem to remember him having at least one storyline in the comic where he is on a misssion with spirit, as they are both native american.

I always loved airborne. I remember playing with him in my blow up pool when I first got him. I must have left him next to the pool with 1 leg sticking up when I went inside. My dad went out to cut the grass and when I went back out he was missing his right foot. I remember putting a toothpick in the hole in his leg for a peg leg.
