The Joes never got a base nearly as cool as Cobra's Terror drome. They did get three bases to Cobra's one however. The 83' base is my favorite because it looks the closest to being a functioning base. The 1992 base seems too much like a temporary setup used to face cobra for 1 afternoon. The mobile command is cool in therory but seems too prone from random sneak attacks because if it's always on the move it wouldn't know if some waste land it was passing through was a secret Cobra Stronghold. And it looks too much like the jawa's sand crawler.
Which one is your favorite? |

I own both the 1983 and 1992 G.I. Joe Headquarters, but of course my favorite has to be the 1983 one. I thought the vehicle lift was cool, but one thing I didn't like about the '83 HQ was that the darn cameras, searchlights and machine guns that clipped on the walls broke too easily. If you have a set of these intact, I suggest you just put them in the storage box in the back of the HQ to protect them.
Even though the 1992 HQ had more guns, missile launchers and the sound effect ability, the 1983 one will always be my favorite, because it looks more like a HQ should. |

The 83 one has better play value for me. I really like a few aspects of the MCC (Like the garage section and the clear strategy board with sliding chair)
Now if we could get those sections incorproated into the 83 playset with an elevator, there'd be no competition at all |

The mobile command center was always my favorite - it was so TALL, and the clear plastic strategy map was amazing. I loved the birg, the fold-up bunks, the helipad... Sure, the same stations reappeared in just about every HQ, but the MCC always stood out for me. (Plus, it always reminds me of the Jawa Sandcrawler, for obvious reasons....)

Never had one of these, though I had the Defiant and I considered the launch pad a base.

What about the General ? if you have the Mobile Command Center in there ...then the General should be in there too.

i never had either but they always seemed so restricted. it would have been better in my opinion if they were made modular and expandable.

The 1983 base and Castle Greyskull were the first toys I ever went absolutely nuts for as a kid! I love the 83 base!
