Not a loser, but maybe a geek/dork or nerd.
Don't worry about those kids, they would never be able to understand.

What we do and what we collect is considered uncool by a lot of people It's a fact of life we all need to accept. I feel your pain and It's happend to me before with my own family. I have two brother-in-laws my age (early-mid 30's) and I'm usually the butt of the jokes with comments like I collect dolls or just rolling of the eyes and shaking of the head whenever it's brought up. It's like I'm the biggest loser in the world or something. There have been countless threads on this topic but the outcome is always the same. Nothing is ever gonna change....some people get it and most don't. I enjoy my toy collection and I try to brush off comments and sneers but I agree it does hurt sometimes. We're on this trip called life only once and I'm gonna enjoy it the only way I know how.
Bottom line it's your life do as you see fit. Who care what others think and say....it would be a pretty boring world if we were all into the same thing.

LOL! When I bought the Ultimate Battle Pack from Target a few months ago, the cashier had the gall to ask me, "Aren't you a little old to be buying toys?" I responded to her, "As a customer service representative of Target, aren't you stepping over a certain line questioning my purchasing tendencies?" She was about to say something stupid, but caught herself, and apologized. I happily walked out with my new UBP that I got for $40 on clearance.
Moral of the story: No matter what you do to try to stay OUT of trouble, there's always SOMEBODY out there that will attempt to knock you down for it. All you can really do is have a snappy comeback. At 33 years old, I'm very proud of collecting, proud of my collection, and proud of the fact that I can laugh when this kind of hypocrisy rears its head. Wonder what the reaction would be if I was stockpiling REAL AK-47s instead of CGs with modified, toy AK-47s...

Man, kids are asses anymore. Im 19, and [s]almost[/s] all of my friends pretty much dig that I have a buttload of vintage and newer toys.
If someone is dissing our hobby, then they probably live a sad little existence.

After having taught for the past 2 years, I seriously I am concerned for the future of my students/society. I told my 8th grade class the other day that I was afraid that alot of them won't even be qualified to work at McDonalds.
I have never seen a more horrible work ethic and lazy attitude than I see from some of these students. And these are the same students that make fun of other students and call them dorks and nerds. So in all likelyhood these are the same type kids that were making fun of you. Like somone else said, these kids will be serving you at McDonalds some day, so don't worry about it too much.

I always shop with my iPod cranked. You're not a loser. We're not losers. We like plastic action figures. So what. Are we losers because we actually read? Pay for what ever we like? Have money without having to hurt someone for it or sell drugs... I deal teens a lot. Many are lost and need help. Many haven't got a clue, are mean spirited and heading down many wrong paths. Don't sweat there comments but, if you have an iPod/MP3 player, crank it next time you shop or just don't give a F#%^ about stupid comments from judgemental strangers.

agreed. i you were in the camping/bait and tackle section, the auto or home repair section, nobody would think twice.
i have adult acquaintances who have rooms full of NASCAR stuff, Oklahoma Sooner stuff, dead stuffed animals, whatever. but none of this stuff carries the stigma that toys for grown men do. even women can collect barbies without stigma.
i have 3 friends that i grew up with in the same neighborhood our whole lives. we all loved sports and movies anything else bros love. but only one of them besides me was into toys/cartoons/comics. to this day we keep in touch, and when i talk to the other two, we talk sports or women or life in general, and when i talk to the other one, we talk all that stuff, plus comic con!!!
people who collect toys/comics, etc really enjoyed the fantasy element of the stuff as a kid, and still do. people who never liked it as a kid, of course don't get it as an adult.
we'll never shake the stigma. all we can do is just do we what we do.

As to why it made you so angry though, I'd venture a guess it goes back to your own highschool experiences of some kind. Anytime we get angry over being called any name or being rejected in anyway it always stems back to our own desires of wanting to fit in.
I mean we all want to be respected, have a place in society and feel that we matter to our friends and family.
The only dumb thing you did was letting it affect your reactions toward your wife. I'd probably apologize to her today but other than that, you're just normal and pretty cool for knowing what you want out of life and having the courage to get it.

You should watch what they are doing when they get to be your age.
When i look back at my own history and watch what became of those who once called me a looser when i was still studying, i just start laughing.
Now, 10 years later I earn tripple as much as them working half as much time. I can buy anything i like, do anything i want while they have to save every penny they earn to make some sort of life and on top of that, what they safe up they usually either gamble or drink away, if not that it goes to one of their ex-wifes.
If i'm a looser, they need to invent a new insulting term to describe them. I just feel sorry for their children at the moment.
I may be a collector of toys, yes, but that isn't everything i am.
