Can you imagine how awesome it would be if Hasbro held a custom contest where the winner sends there custom to Hasbro and it is mass produced. Truth be told customizers do a far superior job than them. I can only imagine how much people would step up there game for a contest of that scale. The prize would have to be worked out as well as the rules. The creator would def. want credit on the packaging and maybe a full set of HoH or something. It would be so awesome if Hasbro did cool stuff like this, they also really need a person whos sole job is to communicate with us on a regular basis. Video games like COD4 have that, Hasbro should too.
Hasbro, host a custom contest!

I would SO Be down for that. You know what would make it even better?
If the customizer who won also got a job as a Hasbro Sculptor.

Knowing Hasbro, we'd probably end up with something lame like #2 Pencil Viper only because the customizer included a 4" long, spring loaded eraser shooter as his weapon.

The problem with alot of customs is that it wouldn't be a cost-effective figure to mass produce.
There's a reason why the customs are more detailed then the actual figures. I think I've seen customs done by Hasbro sculptors that are better then the actual figures produced. It's a good idea. Doesn't Joecon do a custom contest?

Cool idea, but we'd make Hasbro look really bad.

Didn't Hasbro have a custom contest? The winners fig wasn't produced, but I do remember voting on their site for a custom. I think it was a Red Lazer custom that one. Or i was having delusions again.

Click on the link below for the page showing the H.E.A.T. viper GIJOECLUB.COM - The Official G.I. Joe Collectors' Club! Is that awesome or what? I want that figure!

The Hasbro Contest was sponsored in conjunction with the club, and the winner was SPC Airborne's Ripcord. There were several really nice entries, but the contest was marred by vote padding unfortunately.
Hasbro and the club sponsor the custom contest every year at Con. The prizes are a trophy (I've got a few) and show dollars that can be spent like cash at the Con. The HEAT Viper and Bio Viper were prizes for the contest they held at Con last year, where you guessed what parts Rich Woodhouse used in the customs he displayed for Hasbro. Very nice swag if you ask me. FK- While your idea sounds promising, most likely it would be very difficult to make it happen from a company point of view. Implementing it would most likley be more hassle to them than it would be worth, except in terms of feedback from the fans and positive blowback. I do however think your 100% correct in that both Hasbro and the GIJCC need to hire someone to ask as liason to the fan community. I personally think that the goodwill and positive buzz that would generate would offset any costs related to creating the position. What's more, I'd like to see it be someone who is not already on the inside track with both entities, but someone with a more outside viewpoint. Last edited by Alyosha; 04-07-2009 at 06:22 PM.. |
