First off, hello to everyone on this forum. It is great to be here and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, mostly browsing and appreciating other people's joes. I too had a respectable collection once upon a time but all that remains now are the crotchless remains of their former, glorious selves.
My first joe was short-fuse at the age of 10. I had never liked action figures as much and the only ones in my possession were some of the old "masters of the universe" figures. The thing that caught my eye with the joe toys was, firstly, their packaging and secondly the possible articulations on the figures. My collection started off slowly but slowly I acquired iceberg, zandar, airtight and shipwreck. Then I build up my vehicle collection with the bomb-disposal and it increased from there on. My last figure was, if I remember correctly, the night viper. I had always taken good care of my toys and until I was 12, my collection had remained perfectly intact. And then my brother was born. Unfortunately, he did not appreciate the figures in the same way as I did and the end result was that my collection was more or less obliterated. Then one day I stumbled upon this site after searching for the new joe movie. Something inside me was rekindled and I found myself at the local toys r us looking for some new figures. I had found a couple of figures (duke and spirit I think) but was confused by the vehicles in boxes. You see when I had bought mine, I had to assemble and label all of the parts by myself using the blueprint that used to be provided inside the packaging. I looked around at the developments of the franchise and found that hasbro and not funskool made the new line of figures. There were also a number of different years and versions for the figures which left me even more confused. I am not sure if I will restart my collection from scratch, mainly because the availability of the joe toys is somewhat limited in Adelaide, although I still found it rather enjoyable to entertain the idea that I might do it.. These are the remains of my old collection (there were many more..): From left to right:iceberg, buzzer, airtight, shortfuse, nightviper and shipwreck. Can't remember the vehicle's name on the left but on the right is the CLAW, I think. Left to right: VAMP, some COBRA "boat" and bomb-disposal If you have read this far, thank you for your time. |

Welcome to the tank man. I too understand how you feel. When the new lines first were released, I didn't even know they were until one day I was walking at wal mart heading to the toy department to buy something for my daughter, I saw the new line of g.I.joe was just like the vintage. You don't know how excited I was as I let out a little yell like kid (man..embarassing time for me as well) as the staff and some people ran/walked fast to where I wasd to make sure everything was okay. Had to tell them sorry and I was suprised to see the new joes to be like the vintage with the artwork. I brought several and was at first dissapointed because its a lot different than the vintage but within time it will grow on you like it did to me and many other tankers here ( wouldn't you all agree?). Anyways..just wanted to share my story to ya man and am glad to see many new tanker joining this site as today would be the first time ill admit that this is a really really good site and I'm sure you will be very pleased with it. I gotta say wow and impressive to whoever first invented this site.
