I think i'm a geek, it doesnt bother me if thats what i am.
I jusrt remember a few years ago my brother said to me that never let anyone stop you doing something your passionate about, never feel stupid for being passionate about something. He still doesnt really understand why i collect these things and spend the admitedly stupid money that i do spend on them. Im not stopping though. |

Yes we are geeks, dorks, nerds. There are some on here that fall under the definition of Fanboi (and I don't mean that nicely).

Yeah, I accepted the title of Geek for myself many years ago and I have no qualms about it.
Occasionally I may slip into the Fanboi mentality when I let things get the better of me.

Sure. But what is the difference between Joe/comic/toy geeks and sports geeks? Or tv/movie geeks, or car geeks, whatever. Right?
Just because someone is radical about sports or cars doesn't make them more cool. It makes them geeks. It's all in how you look at things.

Yes, we are. Nothing wrong with it. As long as you are happy, that is the important thing.

a "geek" is a circus person that is borderline retarded and bites the heads offa chickens - see Luther The Geek (movie)
...and less literally, if you feel like you are a stereotypical "geek", then you are...but my opinion is that ANYONE who is really "into" something could be concidered a geek...you really like cars? Yer a Car geek...you LOVE watching grown men throw a ball around? yer a "sports geek"....I for one, hate stereotyping...so if you relate to geekdom, then more power to you...

No, we're not. "Geek" is a classification given by those who deem particular hobbies/likes and such 'uncool' or 'geeky' as in something they would not do thus it requires a specific type of person to be labeled as such.
I appreciate that the collector community has enmbraced (sort of) the idea that they are geeks but I for one refuse to. Those 40 something guys who wear capes, live life on the computer in their parents basements and dine frequently on Cheetohs and Mountain Dew ARE geeks. The rest of us are just collectors. We have found something in action figures and other toys that we like and feel aren't just for children. That doesn't make you a geek anymore than liking cars and changing your own oil makes you a greasemonkey.... I for one change my own oil, like sports and collect toys. I must be some kind of anomoly
