i got mine 10 years ago, and it's on my forearm.
if you get it anywhere else, here's what going to happen... non-fans are going to ask..."what is it, what does it mean?" and fans are going to ask...."why isn't it on your forearm/it's in the wrong place" I think if you're commited enough to get it done, go that extra mile and put it where it belongs. that's just me though. My problem is, everyone around me thinks I'm too old for tatts! Especially these tatts. So question is, are you still gonna like it when you're 45? |

I think there is a social mentality that makes most people feel like they mustn't like the same things when they're 45, as when they're 5. I mean, sure, things ARE going to change...but I think that as you get older, you simply weed out the things you REALLY like, from the things you just liked as a kid.
It seems like the generation before us was brought up in a way that they almost had no choice in the matter. They couldn't enjoy playing with the same army men when they turned 18, as they played with when they were 10. This doesn't mean they didn't sometimes miss it. I can't tell you how many times my dad played G.I. Joe with me, and commented on how much fun it was, "just like when I was a kid." Now that toys are often geared towards adults, I think it's fair to say that that mentality is kind of slacking off. My point is: If you earnestly love G.I. Joe now, then you shall when you are 45. Most of us are at the age where we are comfortable in our own skin. I don't think we'll be changing favorites anytime soon. |

Yeah, like a few others I had gotten mine done in 93 and now have been trying to cover it up somehow now that its a little too .... uh HOT TOPIC I guess . I know it should be a I don't care I love Joes thing but its kinda ruined . Thats just my opinion though. I also got mine in black being my Uncles were allergic to red ink and didn't want to risk it. If you love Joes though I think forearm is a must , but maybe try dress it up. As far as too old for tats I think it takes till your either passionate about something or have a real reason for the tat as in meaning or sentimental it sometimes takes age and wisdom. How many people regret getting a Juggalo tattoo or a Goldberg tribal band. I bet everyone but the ICP and Goldgerg ,LOL. Just my opinion though.

Ha!
I'm willing to bet that a huge number of us thought about that tattoo a decade ago, positive it would be so unique and geekily obscure! It probably was, the Internet hadn't quite reached full swing, allowing everyone to dive head first into nostalgia. Man, I wanted that tattoo. Then I saw a couple at wizardworld, realized I wasn't original, and other guys had the balls to get it already. Still, pretty cool image, and way more tasteful than most fanboy style tattoos. I'd say upper arm is good. Out of the way, but creates a curiosity when barely peeking out of a T-shirt sleeve. By the way, is there an official word on where it's located on the characters? Outer arm for SS v1, inner for HallofFame SE, maybe wherever it was easier to paint? |

The majority of people who tell you it's not cool to get the tattoo, or too trendy, are normally people who don't have to gumption to actually go through with it. "Trendy" or "Hot Topic-ish" are terms coined by those who think originality even exists anymore -- and who are largely mistaken. Get your damn tattoo, and to hell with those who would dare tell you your personal life choices, likes, and opinions are wrong. The last I check, this thread was here for an opinion on WHERE to get the tattoo. A question as to whether or not the man should even get the tattoo or not, wasn't presented. There are enough trolls around here to fill a dozen gas station gift shops. Last edited by SolidSnakeEyes; 05-23-2009 at 03:09 PM.. |

I agree, SSE. I have quite a bit of ink myself. I get what I like (mostly solid black tribal) and if someone thinks it's lame, trendy, poseur-ish, etc- screw 'em!
Back on topic- hell yeah, man. If you want that tattoo, get it. You know better than anyone what you'll like... |

SSE and handsomedevil are right on the money. It's your body to do what you want with and if you think something is cool enough to ink on your body roll with it. I myself have the clan tattoo, hiss #'s, and cobra logo on my forearm and recently for giggles I added the Skeletor Havoc Staff on one entire side of a forearm for a 30th birthday present. You only live once so do what makes YOU happy...

Sorry SSE I didn't realize I hadn't put it was my opinion enough times. As far as the topic getting off a little ..who cares . Topics are over the place on the board. I myself , got it done and thought it was part of my life and could appreciate it . I would honestly have gotten something like yours( which is sweet) and have something in mind , but not all Gi-Joe related . Bad news is a good amount of people do trendy sh*t and wear T-Shirts of pop culture stuff that have no clue of what it is AND IN MY OPINION it takes away from what it is . I have mine turned into a dragon and like the fact that its till the symbol with an added SE SS oriental Dragon kinda feel. I failed to add even though more off topic .
A. Never get a tattoo from a buy named "Digger" same as getting a nose job from a Dr. referred to as " The Butcher " . Not an endearing nick name in the ink world . Shoopsy . B. I got the tattoo with a close friend that I considered like a brother and we had a HUGE falling out and the ink was part of that of my life that was now a bad memory . Maybe not so much the trendy thing in hindsight as to why I changed it. C. Try to see if it makes you like a H.H.H mark prior to the ink going on. Here is the jailhouse clan tat . It also has a tail that goes up to my shoulder but I have had a bicep tear and an ex that bit me and tore the skin so I'll keep the tail under wraps till I get it all redone in black again.
