I'm thinking Resolute will be H'bro's way of continuing the 25th/ME line once all the remaining "good" 80's figures are used up. Instead of repaints, they can work up moderized, re-imagined Joes and Cobras within the existing Joe mythos to placate the fanboys who refuse to accept the movie mythos changes and toy line. I think that would be smart. However, if the movie somehow goes super gangbusters with new fans, they may forgo the ME all together for some time to keep up with demand.

The 25th Line (now the Modern Era line) will run aground. There is only so many figures/vehicles to make. Eventually, no matter how popular, it will end.
So Hasbro needs to develop a new "joe" to keep the franchise alive. Instead of laying all it's eggs in one basket (think Sigma 6), it's got two different plans out there: the movie and Resolute. What will help kill the franchise (and make it disappear from shelves again) is the refusal of people to buy/get into anything that is not nostaglia based. Most people are only interested in '82 to '87 (the so-called magic years). Once that well is dry.... that's it, there's nothing more. So yeah, Resolute will eventually take over for the 25th/Modern Era and there will be a Resolute line and a Movie line. And Hasbro will hope that one of them is strong enough to keep Joes on the shelves for a long time.

You know Resolute isn't bad. I have picked up two of the 5 packs 4 of the Cobra Troopers and an extra red faced BAT as well as a red trooper. My own opinion is that the troops look great the red faced BAT is very nice and the feel of the figures is pretty strong. I still want Air Tight as well as several other Classic figures but I don't know if we will ever see any of them. Hasbro is trying to turn the GI Joe franchise into another big seller like Star Wars. If they succeed we may see some of the missing figures from the classic line. Yet I am not sure if that will make good financial sense. Kids today are just like we where, they want to play with toys they see on TV and in comics. When the Resolute Show does arrive those will be the toys they will want. Look at the current Star Wars line. Sure kids buy a few other the classic Star Wars figures but they buy more of the Clone Wars cartoon show toys. In this new age of tight money and job loss what parent can afford to support all the versions of a toy line out. Their children like TV and Comic related items so guess where their cash is going. I see more and more children picking up toys that they see in modern media, GI Joe is not in any modern market other than toys. So I feel that after the movie has made its money those same kids will embrace the cartoon and look for items they see in it.
Like i said this is just my opinion.

I'm sorry, but no. It's not that I don't think Resolute is going to be cool, but quite frankly it's only 1 hour of programming, and unless it gets a really choice time slot (like having its' segments play in the middle of "Clone Wars" on Cartoon Network) and an ENORMOUS advertising push, most kids aren't even going to see it on its' first-run, if ever. Add in the "PG-13" nature of the show and it'll probably get played extra late at night when most kids have gone to bed. Unless it gets expanded to a full series, in which case all bets are off, but there's absolutely no indication of that happening just yet. Now it could be a "hook" in addition to the movie as opposed to in competition with it: The Kiddies see G.I. Joe in theaters, love it, then see that there's some kinda G.I. Joe cartoon coming to (whatever channel). Now they're excited. (And I suspect the "free advertising" of the movie is the reason that Resolute hasn't come out yet...and quite possibly won't until after the movie hits theaters. |

I imagine there may be a movie line and an animated line much like Transformers. They may even throw a couple Modern era bones for updated ARAH, but I see it going more Movie/Resolute than staying 25th/ARAH.

I see it that way myself. I want more ARAH like many of us but I just have a sinking gut feeling that we have gotten most of what we are going to get and the slow trickle of 25th items is already beginning. I will miss all the 25th items but the hope that the line will survive in its 3 3/4th incarnation is a positive hope for me even if that means it evolves into Resolute or Movie lines.
