we just sent a crapload of holiday cards to marines in the sandbox...Our Unit Head bought like, a whole hallmark store, and basically let us take 20-30 cards each, and we got to pick names off of a list he has from a buddy over there and we just sent them thank yous, holiday wishes, etc. we do care packages too through work, but we do those like, once a quarter. So i sent about 60 or 80 cards out to random marines today. Boss was even cool enough to give me some time on the clock to do it. So we bulk ship them tomorrow.
On a separate note, my shoulder is killing me, so i don't know if I'll be on much tonight. The muscle relaxers and narcos make me kinda loopy and disinclined to flit around the net. Oh, BTW Shocky, your stuff should be in the mail tomorrow morning. I'm doing a postrun pre-work. |

Oh, BTW Shocky, your stuff should be in the mail tomorrow morning. I'm doing a postrun pre-work. Awesome about the cards to the military though. On a vaguely related note, my local TRU did a Toys for Tots collection a few weeks back. I was in just hunting with my middle daughter and it was right after my wife's miscarriage. I walked by them and kind of ignored it. But then I thought about all the shit that had happened in our house recently, the stories behind getting my kids and how lucky we were, despite everything. And I remembered that there are tons of kids that don't have it as good as I did or my kids do. We aren't rich by ANY stretch (two college students running a family!), but my kids don't want for anything. So I asked them what age groups need the most. Infants and 12-14 year old boys are the age groups that they have the most trouble getting gifts for. So I went and bought $150 worth of toys to donate. I tried to pick up stuff that my kids loved for the infants and cool stuff for the older kids (which is tough, I might have enjoyed action figures at that age, but do "regular" kids?). $150 isn't a HUGE amount, but it's a pretty good chunk out of my pocket. But at the time, I was pretty bummed. When I was done, I felt good. It sounds kind of dumb, maybe, but just knowing that some kid is going to have something under their tree because of me made me feel good.

awesome on the toysfortots thing man...i buy stuff all year round when it's on clearance but not really something im after, but a good deal. so i buy it and save it in my storage room and then donate it all at then end of the year when our local marine reserve does the toys for tots drive. It's a good thing. I think i gotta pretty good handle on the meds right now, but i'm gonna have to scoot to bed soon anyway. I''lll stick around for a few neway tho.
