There was a thread about that a couple days ago, and I agree with the position that Vipers actually replaced the blueshirts. The original Cobra was supposed to invoke images of the Nazis, a feat which I think they succeeded in. But once '86 rolled around, they needed an update, and the Viper became the new Blueshirt.

We can assume that when Hasbro introduced the Vipers, they were meant to permanently replace the blue shirts, but I like to think that they coexist.

Matbe they are two different branches, like Army and Marines.

Me too, especially since they were released in the same line with the 25th/ME. Black mask/red sigils are my absolute favorite army builder ever, so I have 9 of those, but I also have 6 Vipers. I use them both as completely different factions. Vipers are more the shock troopers, what with the better gear, but the Blueshirts are the regular grunts.

They do look cooler and tougher than the blueshirts, but the blueshirts have a sinister feel to them, the Stinger driver is basically blue shirt, and he looks badasss

I'm by no means a Joe lore expert {disclaimer}, but I have always considered VIpers more elite. Just because Blues are so faceless and all alike. Vipers have diversity and seem a bit more nasty.
As is evident by the Bad Ass Shiner Viper! |

I was thinking the same thing, Blueshirts are the grunts, Vipers are the Shocktroops, but then, where do the Neo vipers, viper commandos and elite vipers come in?
