dang snake, that was close, hitting it in the nose was the best thing you did since that was the equivalent of a thumb to the eye

Damn, SE!!... That's some crazy sh*t!!.... Never encountered sharks while on a board. Although, my Navy career allowed me to "swim" with hammerheads and the occasional Mako.
Last year, I had a dream that I was approached by a shark. Two days later, I went out to catch the evening swell. I saw the dorsal of a dolphin (say that 10x fast!) about 10 feet away just before the I caught the wave. I get up and glance back (I ride a 9' Becker) and saw the dolphin riding the same wave. It was really a cool experience!

Man, the closest encounter I ever had with an animal that could kill ya was with a bear. I was out back in my woods a couple years ago about this time, picking blackberries. I heard a noise like a grut, but didn't think much of it. So continued to pick when I rounded the bush there she was the bear, good thing she was as shocked as I was. She let out a growl, and shook her head, then I was just a flash. Never saw her again though. I didn't know she had cubs with her or not, otherwise I might have stopped and watched her from afar.

All good Chief!!!
Yah, SE... NorCal surf is insane. Cold water. Jagged rocks. Great Whites... At least in places like Bali, the water is clear. You get enough warning.

I've never surfed, did body boarding once. I'm more of a land lover though. Put mein the mountains with nothing more than a hat to kep the sun off my face and I'm happier than happy.

I surf, body board, and body surf. Just depends on my mood. If I haul my board into the water, it's a commitment. I'm in the water for a good few hours at least. With body surfing and boogie boarding, I can just go in, get wet, get out. Surfing is addictive, though. Once you ride your first wave, you seriously will never want to give it up.

don't get me wrong i think sharks are awesome creatures and you have to respect that they are aggressive, more so when there are seals and sea lions in abundance like where i live...the watter is freezing temperatures you have to have some balls to surf my waves....here is a great video of the awesome power of the great white Shark.
