they both cracked in the right knee (left knee from figures pov) in the rear portion of the top loop. Both cracks have white stress bands above and below the fracture. Both knees cracked on the first bend to a kneeling position and both fractures occured with very little pressure being exerted on them.

sounds like it's a problem on the inner ring, or the peg that holds the knee. The peg is faceted, so it can retains poseability. I had something similar, trying to put 25th Shipwreck's knee on another legs. Check the peg in any case. If you get a new one, first disassemble the leg and take off the lower portion, and check the inner ring of the loop.
