Actually.... it was then known as Firebird. The first actual TA was with a 400 ram air hood in 1969. and it was known as the Firebird Trans Am.

And what put Trans Am on the map was not Bandit, nor was it Knight Rider... it was Rocksford Files with the 1972 Trans Am. which in the same series.. also used for certian stunts for the show.. was 72-74 TAs.

another cool fact that a lot of people didn't catch onto for Trans Am was back in the movie called Blue THunder... Roy's character drove a Trans Am... a gold one I beleive the year of the car was a 79.
