Since I'm mostly a COBRA army builder, I can't complain at all about their choices for COBRA in the line. I'm not a big fan of the Dreadnoks so the absence of the 1986 ones didn't affect me. It was wise of them to delay Dr. Mindbender and put him in an army builder set.
We got pretty much all the 1982-1985 COBRAs and the major vehicles, the two biggest exceptions probably being the Moray and the ASP. Army building Firebats was a dream come true for me!

I've said it many, many times and will probably continue to do so because I love reading my own thoughts ad nauseum as much as the sound of my own voice, but I digress:
I think the ROC line would have done much better at retail, even with the price increase, if they had kept the old school card styles and packaging. Imagine the ROC character art with the classic explosion backgrounds and the silver borders of the 25th card. Switch the GIJOE logo to the movie logo with the post office emblem in the right upper corner and urethra, you have it! Quote:
I saw examples of that several times during the 25th/Modern run.
I remember seeing this dude with his girlfriend (who did not have a collector vibe to him) shriek something to the effect of "Holy sh*t! GIf*ckin'JOE!!!" and ran over to the Joe section and was like "these are just like the old ones!" and his girlfriend was alternately rolling her eyes and glaring at him and whining for him to come on so they could leave. I also saw a lot more people buying Joes back then. I talked to a couple of them. They weren't really collectors (yet), but they said the nostalgia packaging had got them interested 'cause it reminded them of their childhood toys. The 25th line packaging and figures is what got me back into G.I.Joe in a big way and I actually don't mind the ROC/POC packaging designs although, like you stated, think they would sell alot better if they would have kept similar packaging to the original vintage 80's & 25th/ME style. And I said that before ROC was even in the theaters CWO about us having nothing but movie related figures for the next 6 years or so since they said something about there being 3 movies. Well, usually there is at least 1 year in between each movie so that makes 2 years worth of figures/vehicles for each movie and if they are doing 3 movies.....that's 6 years of product based on movies. The only problem is that somewhere in the middle of that lies the 30th Anniversary and I don't see them doing 30th Anniversary as a movie line, so we'll see I guess when the time comes? I'm looking forward to 2010 and POC in a big way, those figs look sweet so far! Vehicles not so much though, same with ROC line.....the vehicles just don't do it for me at all.

I'd like some STUNS....but that's me. I think they have found interesting ways to make new Cobras. Without making one feel they were buying the same figure over and over. Overall, I like the lines. Just sometimes the small things get to me. 19 |

My biggest gripe with the 25th/Modern line was re-using specific character heads as different characters.
Gung Ho is not Cutter is not Leatherneck. Doc with vitiligo is not Short-Fuze.

That head (Gung-Ho) which by the way looks more Slaughter than any of them and the Grandslam/Flash head drove me nuts in the begining of the line..... 17 |
