This whole concept of "resting" is a fairly recent development, only becoming prominent during the last decade. I don't seem to recall the dominant teams of the 80s and 90s resting their starters. If the NFL thought it was okay, they wouldn't be trying to stop it through scheduling which is obviously not working. If the league truly wants to curb the practice more drastic measures need to be taken.

The comments made about the Spurs resting players ware that they were resting their main guys for their upcoming game with Memphis, which has the best record right now.

While I agree with the gist of that, I'm also of the opinion that there should be more to the game than winning a championship. I'm not a fan of the "win at nearly any cost" mentality or the fan mentality that your team is only good if they've won a championship.

If they could prove that resting players cut down on injuries, I'd be all for it. But I don't they can, look at the NFL preseason - players coming off a long rest period come into camp or a preseason game and go down. Injuries happen, it's a freak thing and can't be predicted.

Last year Manning went down real early in the season, Collie just seems to be injury prone. With the Dolphins, Dansby gets hurt or a safety or a CB, last year Jake Long was hurt. It just is, and overcoming it is a part of the game - the same as playing every game is.

My Pacers team won tonight in Sacramento after beating the Lakers in LA the other night. They have had a rough start to their season, missing their injured leading scorer.
