You must nnot be watching the same news reports I am. The explosions have already torn HOLES in those containment units man. The entire roof is off one of the reactors and it's open to the air. The 4th building which had a fire today (( due to uncovered rods)) has no protective shell and has about 60 tons of material.
It's gearing up to be very very bad. The people working there are aready as good as dead, but they're staying trying to save other peoples lives. You're down playing it doesn't honor them. Again... when the USS Ronald Ragan has turned further out to sea And they're hosing off flight crews that flew through the area in choppers, it's serious. |

"Physicist Edwin Lyman of the Union of Concerned Scientists, an advocacy group that pushes for nuclear industry safety, said it was unlikely that a plume from the Fukushima plant would rise as high as the one from Chernobyl, which means that radioactive material would be deposited closer to the site." and as far as the navy moving, have you seen all the debris in the water? You think Japans got a replacement prop for a Carrier??? I doubt it. "The U.S. Navy shifted some ships from Japan's east coast to western waters to avoid hazards from debris dragged into the sea by the tsunami and to be away from any radiation plume. One ship at its base south of Tokyo detected low levels of radiation from the Fukushima plant." Could be wrong and I'll eat my hat but there's a lot more going on that "OMG THERES A FIRE!" taken from todays news "Most importantly, thick containment walls at the Fukushima Daini plant shield the reactor cores so that even if there were a meltdown of the nuclear fuel it's unlikely to lead to a major escape of dangerous radioactive clouds into the atmosphere."

blew off the roof of the building that covers the containment building or blew up the containment building itself? there's no fuel source the damn explosions are being caused by pressure from the evaporating steam, which is being used to cool them. Disservice? the media is doing a disservice to the paranoid Americans who cant see past what Fox or CNN are telling them. Radiation has leaked, but its not as significant as some people would have you believe. The internal temperatures are only up to 550 degrees, not much hotter than your oven on its highest setting, and in no-way can melt the steel and concrete surrounding the reactors.

Is it going to be a big mushroom cloud? No. Are 100s if not 1000s going to die (( on top of the ones that already have)) yes. Are 1000s more going to have elevated percentage chance of cancer, and will their children? yes. you're acting like it's no big deal and that the containment unit will do just fine after numerous explosions. There's a crack in one of those already and again, the one building doesn't have the containment shell. What do you think is going to happen to that one if the radiation from the others becomes lethal at short range? it's going to go too. It already caught fire. I'm not saying the entire island is going to sink into the sea, but you're waving your hand like it's no biggie. It is a biggie. This is already as big if not bigger than 3 mile island and it's rapidly approaching Chernobyl level. And nothing they've been able to do has even slowed it down. It's not like they're sitting over there with their thumbs up their butts. They're trying to cool these things down every second since this thing has started and they've had multiple explosions and cracks in the containment units. They're in last ditch methods.

Watch some more news X. Things aren't getting better there. There have been a number of explosions and the 4th building (( that wasn't even active at the time)) where they put the waste from the others caught fire today and has no shielding units.
