when i was on watch duty on my first cutter I was on the top deck of this ship, just above the bridge windows and we could still only see 2-8 miles tops on a super clear day with no haze. At that range even with our view finders you couldnt make out a person on a ship, and could barely make out ships themselves. Most of the time it would be a grey blurr of shapes on the horizon.

Top of the Morning, Joes!
No Luigi, I was just getting rid of my equivalent of Scourge before he became a problem and joined one of the other teams, thus setting us up for an arc-long storyline where I have to fight my evil twin. And nobody wants that.

As you showed, Line of Sight can easily make 2+ miles to target on a clear day. As I can prove, we've got the lasers to make that distance and power And though you'd need a bigger power-pack than Sci-fi has, its plauible within the next 20 years. Its the optics where we're a bit short. But computer-enhanced imagry could overcome that. That's one area where I know nothing about, so I don't know how workable that is. But given the detail in satelite photos, I would say it's probably within the realm of possibility to be able to get an image of 3 miles away from a scope. |

Im wondering if there is a way for the satellite to show you what you are aiming at, and you just have to lock on, the beam would travel out of your sight but the satellites live images would show you what was happening, from a birds eye view of course not direct LOS.
Wait, how/why are we still discussing this? O_o

In any case, does anyone know if the Joes or Snakes have ever employed coilgun/railgun-type weaponry?
I know that in VvV they had a Mass Driver (something that I"m still figuring out), but that's not really the same.

And yeah, it's pretty real, actually. Just like the USAF stuck two big-ass lasers on a Boeing 747 and C-130, the Navy's playing around with railguns. True story, look it up.
