Pyramid schemes involving cleaning supplies! Duuuuuh :P~ I think the Baroness was some sort of trust fund baby, and Destro probably likes to buy her expensive killing gifts for Valentine's day. And Cobra Commander bankrolls the operation with... used cars. Or snake-people money.

Good point.
Always found it strange as a kid, that they were basically an entire nation as far as their military resources, but really just a terror organization. I think the Crimson Guard's infiltration of Americ is supposed to earn a lot of the money, but I'd think each identical looking guy would have to work pretty far away from the next. And recruiting that many troops would be tough. Current terror organizations that are motivated by extreme faith, which is pretty significant, certainly don't have Cobra's resources. The film, for better or worse, makes some sense in having Cobra hijack MARS and use mind control, as well as Super Soldiers to compensate for lack of numbers. Going by toys alone, they had new futuristic weapons every year! If Destro was providing this, he must have split from Coba once their credit ran out. |

I'm sure what they started with were Pyramid schemes to be sure, plus the donations of angry and disenfranchised Americans in the 80s. I'm sure they've blackmailed, kidnapped, murdered, and sold insurance to build up their empire.

CC probably put a little more cash into Viper training, intel, and equipment, so he's got a big advantage over the average warlord who doesn't even put their guys through collage (like the Crimson Guard). He also kidnaps scientists, so who knows how many patents they collect royalties from? |

Makes you wonder when CC was thought dead in the Marvel comics, Cobra had to start selling their vehicles and Terrordromes to make money. It shows that CC is a smart SOB.
