Me...I'd go live action show. But do it as a continuing story, not a jumble up mess were everything is solved by the end of the hour.
I'd do it like the new Battlestar Galactica and have it be real gritty, emotional, scary, and death. Oh, and lets not leave out the sex. Put it on Showtime or HBO.

I'd annoy a lot of people with my lack of originality.
I'd make it a sequel to the 1987 film with similar animation, the upper end of that style of animation like in the movie's opening sequence. I'd get as many of the original voice actors as I could to reprise their roles. I'd introduce the characters and vehicles from 1987 that were not introduced in the movie. It would basically be a commercial for 1987 GIJOE toys. It would replace "Operation Dragonfire" and DiC GIJOE. That would not have happened. It would start with the movie sliced into five episodes, with 2 added scenes in the last battle: 1. After Serpentor and his Air Chariot burst through the membrane of the Cobra-La palace when Falcon has pulled his cape into the engine, he spins out of control into the mouth of a giant flying Cobra-La creature resembling an angler fish and is swallowed with a slurp. This is the end of that character. 2. When Falcon overloads the BET and the yellow energy bursts through the palace, we see Golobulus hiding on a rock ledge in the ceiling of the cavern. He sees the energy coming toward him, screams and recoils, and the energy washes over him and blocks out his image, incinerating him and his scream fades. That is the end of THAT character...and Cobra-La. It would be revealed that "COBRA Commander" has been an impostor since the beginning of Season 2. The original Commander was captured by Nemesis Enforcer and taken to Cobra-La during the chaos of the fall of Temple Alpha at the end of Season 1. His mind was copied and merged with the mind of the impostor. Golobulus sent him to take over COBRA to further Cobra-La's ends, but that plan failed, so he moved forward with the Serpentor scheme. After deciding to replace the impostor COBRA Commander (who had both the original Commander's memories AND those of the Cobra-La noble), Golobulus has the original Commander thrown into the Abyss of Oblivion, but he survives and escapes. During the events of Season 2, he has organized a new COBRA army and stolen Destro's prototype battle armor which is his new uniform. The armor renders him physically invulnerable and invincible. It enhances his strength (he can pick up cars and throw them wearing the armor). It has a force-field that can deflect laser fire. He can shoot lightning from his guantlets like the Emperor, and he can walk through fire, be underwater, etc. The third season picks up right where the movie ends, with the weary Joes heading to the transport plane in the Himalayas only to be ambushed by COBRA Commander in the Pogo, a squadron of WOLVES driven by Ice-Vipers and Snow Serpents, an army of BATs, and a fleet of Mambas with Gyro-Vipers and more BATs with Jet Packs. The Joes are defeated and captured and the COBRA leaders from Cobra-La are liberated. It is also revealed they'd been infected with psychic motivators which is why they collaborated so easily with Cobra-La's plan to destroy humanity and why Destro could work well with the Dreadnoks when they captured the BET. COBRA Commander seals the Joes in a cave of ice to let them die slowly and takes the Joe transport plane to load it with explosives and crash it into GIJOE HQ, defended now only by the new recruits not seen in the movie, like Outback, Psyche-Out and Fast Draw. Before sealing the cave, Sergeant Slaughter tries to attack COBRA Commander but is stopped by Storm Shadow, but the Sergeant pulls Storm Shadow into the cave with the Joes. COBRA Commander orders it sealed anyway rather than attempt to rescue Storm Shadow. We see Mainframe look at Zarana one last time and she turns her back on him before the cave is sealed so that ends their story together. In the cave, Storm Shadow learns that he and Snake-Eyes are from the same ninja clan. Here I blatantly steal from Larry Hama's backstory and reveal that Storm Shadow has served COBRA because his ninja clan had been wiped out by an unknown enemy and he alone survived, or so he thought, and COBRA Commander had promised to reveal the identity of the enemy to Storm Shadow in exchange for his loyal service. Storm Shadow finds out that Snake-Eyes also survived but was badly wounded and scarred, which is why he wears the mask. Storm Shadow vows to get revenge on COBRA Commander, renounces COBRA, and joins the Joes (and gets his 1988 outfit a year early). COBRA attacks Joe HQ and crashes the plane into it. The 1987 Joes and Greenshirts defend it as best they can with the new 1987 vehicles like the Persuader, but they overwhelmed. Maggots shell the HQ from afar. Duke gets out of bed and leads the ragtag Joes in a retreat as COBRA demolishes the place. Gung Ho also gets out of bed and causes a diversion allowing Duke and the other Joes to escape in secret tunnels underground. American military reinforcements arrive and COBRA pulls out, but Joe HQ is destroyed. Gung Ho is believed to have been killed but he's actually buried under the rubble. He is found later and decorated for his bravery, and in the medal ceremony scene he wears the Marine Dress Blues of the 1987 action figure. The Joes and Storm Shadow escape the ice cave, of course, but by the time they make their way back to Joe HQ, it is destroyed. They get the MCC, however, which is gigantic (like the way the Terror Drome's size was increased in the cartoon) and now their HQ is mobile and not vulnerable because it is static. One plot element of Season 3 is Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow's quest for a magic sword that can cut through anything which they need to fight COBRA Commander's invincible battle armor. The season ends in an epic fight between Storm Shadow and COBRA Commander. And COBRA Commander reveals that it was COBRA and he himself who ordered and executed the destruction of Storm Shadow's ninja clan. Storm Shadow defeats COBRA Commander with the sword and badly damages his battle armor. Flint and Lady J get married and retire from GIJOE. COBRA Commander tempts Mercer to return to COBRA and much of the season is spent wondering is Mercer a good guy or bad guy? Falcon must come face to face with Gung Ho, Alpine and Bazooka and own up to what he did, especially now that Alpine is a paraplegic and will never climb mountains again. Alpine and Bazooka forgive him, but Gung Ho holds a grudge and one element of the season is Falcon and Gung Ho are thrown into situations together. The season also deals with Falcon coming to terms with his guilt over Alpine. The Defiant is used to destroy some Cobra-La seed pods that did not burst and are still in orbit. COBRA tries to capture it when it launches and when it lands. The MCC is also amphibious, and sails to the new COBRA Island at the end of the season and battles the new Terror Drome, crashing into it in the big battle. I would select a core group of characters to be the regulars--Duke, Scarlet, Snake Eyes, Flint, Lady Jaye, a few others. Other Joes would show up as their operational specialties were called for. The show would be a strong PG, light PG 13. No swearing or blood, but the action a little more realistic than the old show. Characters would get injured, but death would be a rare occurence. I would serialize it, or have continuing plots that would span multiple episodes, so the stories could be more developed for older audiences. It could be mature, but without "Mature Rated' content. The villains would be more serious and menacing, instead of the campy goofups from the old shows. There would be no sexual content, but a little romance between characters would be okay. A lot like JLU, which was a great show for kids and aduts alike.
Great, now I don't have to write my idea......you just did it for me! LOL, right down to JLU refrence for it being for adults and for kids. Great minds think a like. |
