I gave him the names.
It's really a matter of when you were born. I was born in '82, and my earliest Joe item that i can remember having was a Tomahawk. If you were old enough to vividly remember the first 3 years of the line chances are you were moving away from toys in the early 90's anyhow. This is really gonna on age lines, i think. |

i don't necessarily dislike neon colors. if the colors fit well with the design of the figure/vehicle, then i could like it (Sci-Fi, Psyche-Out, Alley-Vipers, etc.). can't say i have any fondness for the spring-loaded weapons, though, especially when they come with a figure. just too durn big and awkward. plus, other than an RPG or something, not a whole lot of real weapons have their ammunition sticking out the front end of them. not so bad on vehicles if it's not too hufe, though.

You can knock down styrofoam blocks and tip over other action figures with them. Don't you people watch toy commercials!?!

the colors in particular are what killed the line for me the first time. what soldiers come in neon colors? i was lucky enough to grow up with the begining of the line so when it went all spacey, neon, ninja, eco nuts, i moved on to other things. unfortunately, it seems to be coming back around again much to mu chagrin.
please don't confuse this with me saying they should not be made. i understand some kids grew up with the silly stuff and really enjoy it. i'd be just as happy to see the modern line continue through every line/subset to reach the broadest audience possible. i am not egotistical enough to believe that what i don't like, others won't. i won't buy it, but i'm sure plenty of others will and that is the point. one person/fan group is no going to be happy with every figure but then again, i don't think they are making every figure for one person/fan group. gi joe spans early 80's to mid 90's. there is a very diverse fan group to appeal to. when the rainbow brigade vipers come out maybe i can use them to trade for some of the more mundane figures like og vipers, bats, eels, etc. opps, forgot the spring loaded weapons part of the question. while fun to play with, the image of one figure carrying a weapon 3 times his size turned me off. i'm all for suspending belief for the sake of creativity but i had my limits and i drew the line with weapons bigger than the person. take the new bat rocket launcher thingy. by itself, it's slender and works well. a very effective weapon for creative play. now when you actually try to use it, it becomes very difficult for many figures to hold it much less balance it while standing. put it on a stand like scrap irons rocket launcher and it would have been an awsome accessory. i always wished that thing actually shot something.

I for one love the Alley Viper, it is just peculiar to me that a soldier designed to fight in a modern urban environment would have a uniform that would only act as camouflage in a construction cone factory.

I used to love my v4 Snake Eyes, T.A.R.G.E.T., HEAT Viper and the Alley Viper, but looking back at them now, wow. Pretty horrible.
I am indifferent to spring loaded weapons. I think it is a good marketing ploy to get kids involved in the line, but for adults there isn't too much use for them.

I got out of GI Joe before the spring loaded weapons arrived. However, MASK was one of my favorite toys as a kid and it was full of spring loaded missiles and I absolutely loved them as a kid!
Neon colors didn't and still don't bother me all that much today. I always loved Blowtorch and Copperhead as a kid back in '84; I didn't mind SciFi, Zandar or Zarana in '86; and I know I didn't mind Big Boa, Techno Viper, Toxo Viper, etc. back then, either.
