I'm loving this little debate, still don't see how people can say the cartoon looks like a hood.
I showed like 30 (more) people yesterday images from the cartoon, in the percentage that they showed up as a properly-drawn hood vs. hair, and everyone agreed, 80-90% of the time, it was hair. Clearly, hair. And I think the proper survey group are those people who saw the cartoon ONLY growing up, and weren't big toy/comic buffs like the majority of the guys on here... You guys are biased and KNOW what it's SUPPOSED to be and see it as a hood, but again, that's not the issue. The question isn't what it is supposed to be... I'll agree hands-down, it's a freaking hood by all intents and purposes, but the cartoon drew it wrong, and they drew it as hair, so growing up, in the cartoon G.I. Joe world, Zartan had long, flowing brown hair, not a hood. Several people also agreed with me that he looked more like a Thundercat than someone who should have been in a G.I. Joe cartoon. |

I think its the countdown for zartan episode that pieces of "loose hair" is in his face. its either that episode or the one where duke threatens to let gung-ho pour swamp toxin down zartans throat. I just seem to remember seeing pieces of hair in his face. I could be wrong though, its been awhile since I saw those eps.

Anyone that says it is hair, is quite frankly, an idiot.
Go back to art school...ask an artist if you want an answer. |

If a team of Korean artists made it hair at one point and quality control didn't realize it in a 2 second clip ..that doesn't make it so.

it's hair. I always wanted it to be a hood, but its just not. Its hair. I don't understand why people talk about bad animation when that is the continuity. It's not disappearing noses. It's not accidental pallet swaps. It's not characters placed in incorrect scenes. it is always hair - tell me/show me where it's not. until then I am out. the insults on this thread is appalling and unfound. Watch the freaking cartoon before you call people names. |

I feels kinda strange that this little debate has actually dragged on for 12 + pages. I watched GI Joe the cartoon as a kid and collected the Marvel series starting at issue #38. I can honestly say I have NEVER thought that Zartan had long flowing hair. It was a hood. Always has been a hood, and most likely always will be a hood (except that freaky mohawk Zartan figure from around the Ninja phase of the figs. Freaky....
Anyways, there's my two cents... Hopefully the debate dies soon... |

I think it was usually drawn as a hood even in the cartoon by most of the animators for the most part. Seems like there are only a small and select amount of scenes that depicted it as hair.
But honestly, unless you know somebody that was an actual animator of those scenes....there is never a way of knowing what was going on in the minds of those guys while drawing Zartan. In my mind it's always going to be a hood. But there are certain instances like we've mentioned where it was drawn as hair without any doubt.
