The Vickers Vigilant was a similar missile that actually saw service with the USMC briefly.

I've always thought the Firebat reminded me of the sort of last ditch attempts that WWII era Germany was making in 1944 or 1945 - ingenious, but desperate and too little too late.
Now I just stumbled on this video, which reminds me hugely of the Terror Drome as well. The last minute or two end up being a sort of advertisement (and the title is generally misleading), but the first six minutes are interesting for anyone with an interest in WWII history or where concepts for old classic toys may have come from. |

I am quite familiar with these towers (as a WWII history enthusiast), but I never considered them as real world inspiration for the Terror Drome - good find!

I wonder if this tank, had anything to do with the design of the Slaughter's Marauders Lynx. I just learned about this tank today. It was a limited production prototype from the 80's called the Expeditionary Tank. |

I think the original Hiss tank was modeled after the Big Trak programmable toy of the late 70's and Joe Johnston's concept AT-AT tank from Empire Strikes Back also from the late 70's. Probably why it resembles a cross between a WWI tank and something that belonged on the moon in some sci-fi flick.

Most definitely the inspiration for the USS Flagg. I've posted this in several places - don't know if we'll ever correct the error that the Flagg is a Nimitz-class - but here (if the link works correctly) is a screenshot of a conversation with Dan Klingensmith Jr. who quotes the USS Flagg creator as finding inspiration in the Intrepid.
For those that are in the Admiral's Club Facebook group, I posted the screenshot of the conversation and several images of the Intrepid to that page. Jason |
