Wow, this is such a cool video. Wish the Warthog really did look like this.
deadspin-quote-carrot-aligned-w-bgr-2 This is something like what you'd expect to see the Joes do in the cartoon.

A lot of GIJOE vehicles get inspiration from specific Snowmobiles and special tired off road vehicles for use in snow. For example, these are common wheel configurations. Notice something familiar about them?

Actually, Storm Eagle was based on F-23 black widow.

Clarifying some info from the first page.
The USS Flagg is not a Nimitz-class air craft carrier. This is a bit of misinformation that still gets passed around. It was confirmed on the GIJoe Discussion FB page that the model maker based the original design on the Essex-class USS Intrepid CV-11. If you are a member of the Admiral's USS Flagg FB page, I've posted pics/screen shots there of the discussion where Ron Rudat talked with the designer who says that he based the design on the Intrepid. Also, I've posted pics of the Intrepid showing the real-world look of the Flagg. If you compare the tower, the shape of the flight deck, and even things like the fact that it has a crane, the single-barrel cannons, radar placements, and even the airplane "kill marks," there is no denying that the USS Flagg is based off the Essex-class USS Intrepid. I think somebody used my post to update one of the wiki sites, but the misinformation seems to get passed around faster than the truth. Jason |

I have a book from 1988 called "The Encyclopedia of World Military Weapons" by Chris Bishop & Ian Drury. This book has some awesome pics of various weapons (missiles, tanks, APCs, hand weapons, etc.) from the 1970/80s.
They have several self-propelled cannons from which the Slugger may have been designed, such as the M110 203-mm Self-Propelled Howitzer or M109 155-mm Self-Propelled Howitzer (tracked vehicles)with possibly the wheel design borrowed from the V-300 Cadillac Gage. There is also a Stingray Light Tank that looks pretty close to the MOBAT. The two most interesting things I found were on p 194, there are a couple of towed anti-aircraft guns that resemble the Whirlwind and Cobra ASP. The Oerlikon 20-mm GAI-DO1 light anti-aircraft gun looks real close to the design of the Whirlwind, with a possible cross-design from the 20-mm Vulcan light ant-aircraft gun. The Cobra ASP looks similar to an Oerlikon 25-mm Diana light anti-aircraft gun. It has the center pod the gunner sits in, with the swivel cannons on the side, plus the wheels flip when not being towed. I really enjoy threads like this as it gives an idea of what might have been in the minds of the designers when designing Joe/Cobra vehicles. Jason |

Yeah Mobat might be the Stingray, it was in development at the time so the turret might have been changed after the Mobat was released. The whirlwind really might be Two Vulcan cannons mounted in a m45 quad mount configuration with influences from the hispano Suiza https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispano-Suiza_HS.820 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispano-Suiza_HS.404 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCM-20 From the looks of it, the Daina ADA is also an obscure enclosed quadmount like platform that reached only prototype stage. for the Orelikon KBA, a 25mm Autocannon they make. The 25mm cannon itself was switched to CIWS like systems instead when vehicle anti-aircraft design switched to missile Anti air systems. |

I'll upload the photo from the book. The text doesn't seem to indicate that it only reached prototype stage, although I can't find a pic of the Daina online. When you see this pic, you'll definitely see the connection with the Cobra ASP.

Bumblebee's new TF movie takes place circa. 1980s. Love to see all these classic vehicles make a cameo, cross over, or star in the new rebooted films = http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ml#post5052296

Also posted these pics in Tuskegee Joe's movie thread.
Photos were snapped with my IPad from "The Encyclopedia of World Military Weapons" by Chris Bishop and Ian Drury, Crescent Books, NY: 1988) This profile drawing of the M60A1 looks a lot like the MOBAT Of course, so does this Stingray Light Tank Real-world inspiration for Oktober Guard personnel carrier, there are Soviet versions of this same carrier This German transport looks a lot like the APC to me The Slugger looks like it could be a blend of a Self-Propelled Howitzer and the Cadillac Gage The real-world inspiration for the MMS, which also explains "Hawk's" code name The Whirl Wind looks, to me, like a combo of a Vulcan cannon and this 20-mm anti-aircraft gun Finally, this anti-aircraft gun, to me, looks like the real-world inspiration for the Cobra ASP Jason |
